It's awful.  What is the point of an avenue when traffic is forcefully diverted off of the avenue every block, sending that traffic instead down residential side-streets to be clogged waiting for lights, backing up, spewing exhaust, honking etc., just in order to get to the next block over.

I see this force diverting happening everywhere and it does nothing but cause problems for drivers who want to use streets to get where they're going, and for residents who now have to contend with increasing traffic and stress on once-livable quiet side-streets.

City planners get paid to sit in offices and draw their fantasies on paper while the real-world result of their masturbation degrades the quality of life of people living in this city.  Really it would be better to pay them to do nothing and produce nothing and the majority of city-dwellers would be better off.

If you're going take away a street, then just have the balls to do it 100% and cut the crap.

But there's yoga, yard sales, hot cider stands and zumba sessions! Where will THEY be diverted to!

Kidding aside, thanks for a voice of reason. And remember it's only a proposal.

DOT said they wanted to reduce the reliance on volunteers to move the barricades twice a day. Then proposed diverters that drivers could simply drive around to easily access 34th Avenue for several blocks, making the Open Street not very pedestrian friendly, which DOT also said would probably mean the barricades would have to stay. Come again?

The barricades were an imperfect temporary solution fine for an emergency. We need design choices that limit cars to local traffic only, that keeps the space safe and inviting to pedestrians, and allows local drivers incapable of moving a heavy barricade access to the street to park, drop off/pick up, etc. This isn't it.

Oh no. Don't tell me folks are making up negative facts. How disappointing. And there I was admiring and celebrating those people for their integrity. Thinking they were upright citizens in our community. Sad.

do you really have to speak in such adolescent terms? have the balls to learn adult discourse and not simply reach for Atlas Pooped.

I don't really understand this scenario you are describing. Someone driving from one block on 34th Ave to the next block on 34th Ave? Surely anyone would walk in that situation?

I think they meant "the next avenue over" or something? It seemed clear to me. Shove the evil traffic onto the side streets so they can get to roads that work do as intended.. sorta.

What a contentious project! Really needs a long review by professionals with lot's of data because this plan is not what satisfies both parties who live/work/go to school on 34th Ave. It may be possible this was just put out to start a discussion and is far, far from anything that could be considered permanent. The Broadway to Northern Blvd. divided bike lane was installed and lasted about two weeks last year when it was demolished by traffic needing that space. I believe this design would have a similar fate. Chingwa called it!

The first real snowfall always brings the snow plows to tear up all of these street modifications.
The Broadway bike lane is being built back now. Enjoy it while you can!

If lawbreaking vandals wantonly destroy public safety equipment on roads, then they should be arrested and criminally charged.

Next time build it out of concrete.

The people have spoken.

The anti open street candidate lost.

 Hooray for the Democratic process.
