Open Streets isn't about dealing with Covid any more. The city has been moving in this direction for a long time now. Just look at the changes that happened over time to Times Square.

And even if you don't think it's a wise move, posting about it here doesn't do anything to change the trajectory of where the city is moving. If OS is a big enough issue for someone to become a single issue voter, there's an election in November where you can vote for someone for City Council who wants to end OS.

I had a thought about resolving two issues, the vendors and the volunteers. Why not offer vendors access to their spot legally if they man the barricade fences during the day? Thanks to the vendor who moved the barricade for me the other day, BTW.

^what's illegal about the current set up of most vendors? And do you really want vendors on every block?

The only real issue that has been raised is that beyond having a vending license, which they may have, they aren't supposed to set up in the median (but what harm does it actually cause since the road way is shut down to traffic during the hours they are vending) and the opponents of OS logged enough complaints about their neighbor in the 90s who was setting up essentially a flea market every day on the median to have that come to an end.

Oh I'm not defending the democratic party nationally, who, as we speak, are screwing the pooch.

I'm just laughing at the likelihood of a libertarian party candidate being elected in western queens in a district represented by AOC.

the national Libertarian Party is in favor of legalizing sex work and decriminalizing all drugs. i'm fine with both of those positions, but given previous threads on this board, i'd imagine Jaswal would have some serious convincing to do.

while their social positions on individual liberty are refreshing (and ones I agree with), they are nakedly darwinian fiscally....

.... eliminating all govt. provided benefits and insurances (social security, medicare/caid, unemployment, etc.etc.) for the "undeserving" poor. the free market will provide (barf).

basically

"The law, in its majestic equality, forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal their bread." but on steroids

plus - at least nationally- they are a 3rd party, tilting at windmills in the US system.

oh, i'd sooner write in Wink the Penguin than vote Libertarian. just noting that a lot of the people hyping Jaswal's candidacy have also ranted about the dangers of sex work being done in our neighborhood.

Let's ask the males walking down Roosevelt Ave... who get propositioned on every single block...and even twice walking along a single block ...whether there is enough sex work in this neighborhood or not.

i simply noted that the Libertarian Party endorses making sex work legal. and that we have a Libertarian candidate in the race who seems to be gaining traction among people who post here and in other Jackson Heights forums. just wondering if the Libertarian (large and small "l" definitions) stance on the issue is also gaining traction.
