agreed. the other choice is to spout facile epigrams from the Gospel of Ayn Rand at every turn. Atlas Bumbled.
"woke" beats "asleep" every day of the week.

Look, not everyone who has severe problems with substance abuse, and these men most certainly do, are fallen saints. While I agree that there should be some system in place to help these people, none of us commenting on this message board have the training and resources to do anything about this except for continuing to email our elected officials, who are absolutely useless in every way, and have been for years. In the meantime, we shouldn't need to tolerate the various and sundry degeneracies that contribute to a substantial decline in our quality of life, especially when these people refuse help.

Agree. Obviously it is far, far easier to fight on this forum about terminology. And argue "Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who is the most "virtuous" amongst us all?"  Than actually really face the true problem in the streets.

100% NOT a follower of Ayn Rand.

Some folks aren't slaves to others' ideologies. Socialism. Republicanism. Marxism. Ayn Randism. Whatever.
They make up their own mind concerning each different situation, fluidly.
That's a definition of being truly free.

I hope all of the fatties, Negros, beaners, cripples, crackers, white trash and retards agree with you that terminology doesn't matter. Oh, the drunkards, too.

Sigh. Yet again, even with all those bad words on this forum, the original problem on the streets remains untackled.

Yet again, someone wants to fight over words and not deal with the true situation.

The problem on the street is not solvable by anyone on this board. An improvement in the level of compassion as we discuss our issues is possible. If you have a secret cure for addiction, please share it. Otherwise let's simply try to be kinder to our more troubled neighbors and recognize that they are also part of the Jackson Heights family.

Finally , we move from not fixating on the words and looking at the issue itself! Hooray!

Traditionally alcoholism is treated by folks attending AA.

AL ANON ...which is a group for those affected by others with alcoholism has a lot to say about how to deal with alcoholics whose actions impinge on a person.

In a way, all of us in Jackson Heights should attend AL ANON to learn how to deal with alcoholics. Because our lives are affected by them.

Folks on this forum may be surprised by the advice that AL ANON suggests when dealing with the addicted.

We, the residents of Jackson Heights are traumatized by the behavior of the addicted. By being exposed to it.

Our trauma should also not be minimized.

AL ANON, who are the EXPERTS for folks in our situation, is the advice we should heed.

Even with all the "Virtuosity" on this forum, "Virtuosity" worthy of the Mother Theresa Award for "Virtuosity"... ...the fact is even Mother Theresa herself was a pragmatist. She probably would have followed the principles of AL ANON.

A person who is comfortable using the word drunkard probably also would use the words Negro and retard. Just saying.

Not even remotely close to the same thing snowflake. Should they be called the alcohol challenged?

Lookup the history of the phrase "useless eater," and the 1933 Nazi Law for the Prevention of Progeny with Hereditary Diseases and how alcoholism was treated.

And now that Godwin's Law has been clearly demonstrated, will the mods please finally shut down this dead-end thread? Thx.

Here’s a crazy idea....

These upstanding citizens frequently
-are shit faced wasted and confrontational
-expose themselves as they urinate or crap
-have open containers
-loiter childless too close to a school and playground

All of which are illegal activities. Let’s see, what’s that old word that not used in queens anymore. What could possibly be done?  Oh that’s right, arrest them!

We need police on the beat that have a relationship with the community.  Maybe overnight in a drunk tank to sober them up and get them some social services would do the trick.  Same with all the unwanted solicitation on Roosevelt avenue.  I'm sure the 115 and 108 are aware of the situation as much as the residents of the neighborhood.  Arresting or ticketing won't solve the problem you need to get to the root cause.
