The planes are back. Today's maintenance is from 9 to 4, June 19, 2021.

New to the hood .. this a frequent thing? I've been here since the beginning of February and seems like today's the first time.

some summers, it happens every week. sometimes it's six months between incidents. it's been quiet because travel was virtually non-existent, so runways got less wear. my guess is you'll hear it again in 3-4 weeks. remember, we're only a mile from one of the country's biggest airports -- and remember that the other 99 percent of the time, neighborhoods on the other sides of LGA get this "treat."

It's hard to remember how often it used to happen in the "before times." Maybe once every 2-3 months. Sometimes it lasts both days of the weekend and can start as early as 6 am. There's a website called Webtrak that shows the maintenance, but it's sort of useless for me because the only time I think to check it is when I'm already hearing the planes. https://webtrak.emsbk.com/panynj4

yes, the 6 a.m. starts are the worst. they end earlier, too, but if you're up at six on a Sunday, that's not much solace.
