Group therapy for Children of Divorce/Separation: A weekly group setting, which provides girls with skills and tools to better adapt to changes brought about by divorce or separation in their family.
 
About the Group:
Queens College Psychological Center (QCPC) would like to let you know about a program for girls (ages 9-11 years). QCPC’s “Group Therapy for Children of Divorce/Separation” seeks to teach a variety of empirically supported strategies to help children adapt to changes brought about by divorce or separation in their family. The group will aim to correct misperceptions about divorce, teach relaxation skills, increase social support, and provide coping skills. The group seeks to support young girls against the stresses of divorce/separation and provide skills to benefit them through their lives.

Enrollment Details             
We welcome any girls (age 9-11 years) that you identify as possibly benefiting from the “Group Therapy for Children of Divorce/Separation” program, particularly girls who are having difficulty adjusting to changes from divorce in their family.

We will return your call to answer questions, provide information, and complete a brief phone screening.
A free, Zoom screening is required. Referral information will be provided to girls whose needs may be best met through other services or when slots for the group are filled.
All group sessions will be offered at no fee, consistent with QCPC’s commitment to providing services regardless of a family’s ability to pay. (Families may contribute a $10 dollar materials fee if they are able to.)
The first group meeting will tentatively be in November 2020 and the group will meet weekly for approximately 10 weeks.
Group meetings will be on Thursday 5:00 -6:00 (tentative) and take place over Zoom.
Services are provided by advanced doctoral students in our Clinical Psychology Ph.D. Program at Queens College, City University of New York who receive specialized training and are closely supervised by experienced and licensed clinical psychology faculty.
All services are confidential.
