Food Scrape Dropoff
« on: March 20, 2020, 06:37:41 AM »
Annouced yesterday, the Grow NYC had to cancel all food scrap drop off at the NYC greenmarkets going forward.

Since we don't have access to curbside pickup, anyone have any ideas of where to be able to drop off all the food scraps?

We don’t have the room to put in freeze and only going to pile up.

Thanks

In emergencies, some important but non-urgent infrastructure needs take a hit. This is one example.

If it becomes too much to hold, you have to trash this stuff in the regular trash.

i don't think there are any local community gardens large enough to take drop offs from the outside, but GrowNYC has a list of those in Queens. since it's the same parent, they may also be declining donations, but it's worth a try.

Jackson Heights Beautification Group has a compost center on 69th Street between 35th and 37th Avenues called SCRAPS. They are open on Saturdays from 10-noon. Should meet your needs now and help the community. The compost generated there helps our street trees through the gardening efforts of JHBG. Lots of beautiful daffodils along the street now also planted by the group.

Having the same dilemma DijoninJH. I checked with the JHBG SCRAPS program and unfortunately they are closed as well.
