I for one like this feature, which I see available elsewhere, since it’s a quick way of seeing the overall sentiment on a given topic. Some people might have a strong opinion on a topic but will not post a reply.
It would be nice to make it limited to one vote per user.

I'd rather see this used as a forum for intelligent, thoughtful debate. A thumbs up or down feature seems like something you'd find on a Yahoo! News forum, which just encourages trollish behavior, of which there is already enough on social media.

i'm torn. there are times i'd like to express agreement, but don't have a lot to add. maybe i/we are just conditioned to think that our opinions matter more than they actually do.
