Overcharged at Fruitadona, 83-10 37th

This afternoon, was charged $2.99 for large cantaloupe that was prominently marked in two bins in the store $2.50.  Realizing this after I left and thought to check the receipt (which I always ask for even though paying in cash), I returned to show it to her and ask for a refund.  Without a word, the cashier gave me the coins, offering neither explanation nor apology.  Does that mean, 'oh well, I didn't get away with the overcharge this time'?

I shop there and have never been overcharged, as far as I know. Recently they have been making a lot of improvements to the store, carrying more products and the cashier is always nice -- so I'm a fan.

Sorry to hear about your experience. It's always good to stay vigilant.

Maybe it means she made an honest mistake. Maybe the price changed today. Maybe she was having a rough day. Maybe her commute was awful. Maybe one of her kids is sick.

Let's not jump to conclusions.

So, just to be clear, you were overcharged by 49 cents and immediately issued a refund, but because the cashier wasn't apologetic enough to your liking you've decided to take your grievance public?

I'm guessing about half the time I go to the grocery store I'm overcharged for something. I'm vigilant and watch the prices as items are scanned as well as look for the discount that often comes with use of a frequent shopper card. It happens. It's not the cashier's fault, and even if they make a mistake...well, people make mistakes.

Better to operate from a place of kindness towards the cashier than to assume the cashier was trying to pocket your 49 cents.
