Amore Cafe
« on: August 21, 2019, 09:39:27 AM »
Walking down 37th Avenue this AM and noticed a new sign for what seems to be a new cafe: Amore. It's in the old Cali Caliente spot. Had seen work going on there and was wondering what was going in the space.

Not a food related topic, but the old Made in Brazil space is now Coco's Optical. Really glad to see stores moving into the vacant spaces.

Encore, by name. on 37th near 81st (maybe the old Italian Farms?). gates are down, no peekability, but the sign looks generic pizza place, promising pastas, salads, sandwiches.

Yes, I posted about it a couple thread back (no replies). It's called Amore and it's in the old Cali Caliente space. Have no idea what's to come, but hoping it's a decent pizza.and salad option!

It's open, officially. Haven't been yet, but plan to check it out. Inside looks cute.

Tried to take my daughter in for a slice this afternoon.  Woman said they don’t have any slices, but did this morning.  As we were leaving, I guess it was the owner on his way in saying, “What, you didn’t like the pizza?”  We said we tried to get a slice but there wasn’t any.  He looked down at her and said “For the child no problem, come on in and I will get her a slice.”  We said no thanks.

Weird.

I went to have lunch here on Tuesday October 15th and the place was closed.  It seemed very odd to have a grand opening Sunday and Monday and then to be closed on Tuesday.  Even if you were usually closed on a Tuesday I would think you would have wanted to be open for people who walked past the previous two days and wanted to try it for the first time.

Seems like a really cute, local place. You guys gotta give them a break bc they are closed every tuesday and the pies are personal at smallest... cmon.

They have pizzas, pastas, salads, and deli sandwiches. They seemed really sweet and I hope they do well

I got some vegetable lasagna to go and there was nary a veg to be found. It was a bunch of noodles with tomato sauce on top. The staff is very sweet but I am not going back in a hurry.

They were giving out pizza samples on Saturday outside, and the pizza I tried seemed very good for a slice. Thin, crisp crust, tasty sauce, normal cheese. Hopefully the stuff inside will be good too-- the sample definitely enticed me to try a full slice there the next time I want one.

I wonder if what they meant was vegetarian lasagna, as in meatless, rather than having vegetables in it.

OK, had the pleasure of trying a slice tonight. Crispy, very homemade seeming pizza dough, thin. Different than your typical New York slice and very tasty. I would recommend everyone to go in and give them a shot. They now have heroes, first time I’ve ever seen a fish Parmesan, and are looking to do beer and wine within the next month and will start doing more platters there after.

Amore is currently closed. The windows are papered, and there's a sign stating that they're closed for remodeling.  :-\

It seems odd to renovate 5 months after they opened.  I feel Amore has no direction in the type of food they served being that they are not a full fledged pizzeria.

what elements of a full-fledged pizzeria were they missing?
