ICE march in Jackson Heights
« on: July 15, 2019, 10:20:53 AM »
Can the organizers of the next march for Immigration Rights please post here? Many people are not
on Facebook any longer and use this and other neighborhood sites for notices. I saw very few local
faces at the march. Otherwise we are just a background for protest which is not what JH is really
about.

Yes, agreed! I'm not sure who organized the march (Make the Road maybe?), but I did not hear about it until after it was over. Probably good to find out and reach out directly, since part of the issue may be that some local organizers/activists are not aware of / don't regularly look at this board.

They knew where to find you when they needed your vote.

I just found the following information on Facebook. It lists groups which I believe may be the organizers of yesterday's Abolish ICE march:

Make the Road NY ran for office?

i missed that somehow.

if you're talking about our congresswoman or state reps, i'll just quote the brilliant orator in the White House and say "If you're not happy here, very simply – you can leave. You can leave right now."

How about in March for actually enforcing the laws that are already on the books?

I guess this explains why the protest wasn't locally based. I don't see these particular groups
represented much here in JH except Queens Neighborhoods United. I imagine they are all
doing some good work but are in different wider circles than what the locals here know about.

And after a two-year investigation, do you know something everybody else does not?  Please share.

The organizers of these types of events only have so many hours in a day to actually organize their events and take action to inform locals about the actions. Best to follow these groups online and figure out how they are letting their followers know about the efforts. I get that a lot of folks don't want their FB feed filled up with this sort of stuff (or have abandoned FB altogether), and ditto for email, but there's only so much organizers can realistically do to inform people about things like marches.
