Air train information meeting tonight.
« on: May 29, 2019, 08:44:08 AM »
So the Port Authority wants to spend $1.5 BILLION for a train to take people from LaGuardia Airport to Willet Point.
It sounds like a billion dollar boondoggle to me.  Come out and learn about the Port Authority's "preferred proposal" and what power we have to comment on it and maybe change it for a sensible way to LaGuardia.

We need more information about a one-seat subway ride to LaGuardia.
We need more information about ferry service to LaGuardia.
We need more information about improved bus service to LaGuardia.

The Air Train as proposed by Port Authority only hurts our neighborhood.  We will never use it.  We will suffer through the construction.  We will lose parkland.  We will lose access to Flushing Bay.  We will not receive better subway services, better bus service or better ferry service.  We want a sensible way to LaGuardia.

Come out tomorrow night an hear about other options and learn how you can have your voice heard.

I would use it. Would definitely prefer a train over a bus or taxi.

I wouldn't. The express bus Q70 takes 10 minutes and goes directly to Jackson Heights. Have you ever taken the Q70? Yelpers give it 4 stars. https://www.yelp.com/biz/q70-to-laguardia-new-york?osq=q70

I haven't tried the Q70, but I waited about 20 minutes for a Q47 once before giving up and walking...

The Q70 got a C grade according to http://busturnaround.nyc/report-cards/. And the Q47 got a D grade. So maybe the Q70 is slightly better, but they both sound pretty bad :P

Maybe give the Q70 a chance before making a judgment. I've taken it numerous times and I've been pretty happy with it. It's also extremely direct in terms of connecting Jackson Heights and LGA, and for that matter, connecting LGA with the E/F/R/M/7 trains, which the proposed Air train would not offer.

The busturnaround group has rated ALL of the buses in NYC as bad. No bus in NYC received a rating higher than a C. Maybe their criteria or agenda are off. Is this group a fringe group like the people who do not want a Target store in the neighborhood and who want the city to buy a car dealership at Travers park ?

I have used the Q47 and had no problem with it. There is not much traffic on the route after it gets 2 blocks past the Roosevelt terminal. If they rated on a curve the Q47 would get an A.

I second the bus. I travel very frequently for work and I always either take the bus or a cab if I have luggage. The bus is straightforward -- and now that the cab line has been moved due to construction at LGA it's often easier than a cab.

I won't be keen on going all the way to Willets Point to connect between JH and LGA.

The concern about the impact on the 7 line is real. And the cost totally boggles the mind.

So what came out of the meeting last night?

That isn't right, there were some As and Bs as well. For example the Q52 received an A. You have to click "Show All" on their website.
