Actually it's not so easy to make many of the healthy dishes at home--they may involve long cooking times and ingredients that are not so easy to find. It can take more time and work to cook some of these foods than some people have available, and they don't want to settle for Burger King/processed foods just because they lack time. Some people have heavy family responsibilities, two jobs, are writing a book after hours, go to school nights, etc. I don't know why people get judge-y about takeout/eating out, like it's an immoral habit.  Time is money, and all that--and being able to buy healthy prepared meals is well worth the money in exchange for time for many people.

It is also often cheaper to simply get a couple market plates than to buy all of the ingredients to make a similar type meal (that has flavor).

Sorely lacking seems like a bit of an exaggeration when you can easily make healthy meals at home.

Meals made at home by definition are not takeout. N00b, you seem to have completely misunderstood the title and purpose of the thread.

I went to one of the Create locations for breakfast today. I told the owner that JH is untapped potential and waiting for someone to do it right. He said he gets requests for various areas often. He asked me about what the main avenues/streets are, etc.  Said he’ll look into it.  He won’t...

The sushi Japanese take out place 969 Cafe near Roosevelt on 80th is the healthiest food to go I have come across in the neighborhood.

Good point, CaptainFlannel--that was a nonsensical statement, which I didn't notice.

Am I the only one that counts K&L among my options for “healthy” food? They have great salads and wraps, and my wife said the juices are yummy too. Don’t discount your local corner deli, guys. It’s a New York institution. Hahaha.

I also endorse K&L! The salads are really pretty good, though they don't have the fancier salad bar options or quinoa bowls or anything like that. I've never tried the juices, but yes, we are regular customers and it's right on our block.

Thirding K & L. Love that place. They also will customize anything to your liking—egg whites and avocado and spinach in a wrap, for example. And very reasonable prices. We're so lucky to have K&L in the neighborhood.

I have yet to see Fruitilicious open, but they supposedly have smoothies and juices and such (https://www.seamless.com/menu/fruitilicious-8815-37th-ave-jackson-heights/999693). And I'm not a huge Caffe Bene fan, but they do have acai bowls with all sorts of options if you have a hankering for one. (81st & 37th Ave)

I've been to the Create in Astoria and while I personally enjoy the food options, it is very pricey and has a really sterile, chain-restaurant type feel. I wouldn't jump at getting one in JH, especially when we already have Just Made 4 U. Each to his own, of course, but I'm glad for our quirkier, smaller options (was rooting for Fresh Splilt Milk, despite its issues), in a neighborhood that (thankfully) doesn't yet look like a million other neighborhoods in NYC.

So many neighborhoods are really starting to look alike these days, with Chipotle and Chopt and Juice Generation (and its clones) and chain banks and pharmacies and the like, and while of course we have plenty of chains here (on 82nd in particular), I am so happy for the unusual array of local options we have in Jackson Heights.

(I know this thread is about healthy food options, so not trying to derail the conversation! But I do think we have healthy food available here like salads and wraps and sushi etc.; it's just particular types of healthy food—quinoa bowls, for example—you might have to travel for.)

I had my first ever poke bowl last night in Astoria. I wouldn't mind a poke place here.

I Uber eats poke from possibly the same place when I’m in JH every now and again.

just curious, Michael:

you're a new user who's posted pretty exclusively on this topic and seem to have a good grasp of the neighborhood and the culinary concept....are you pondering opening a spot, perhaps?

Honestly, not at all. I lack the aptitude, drive, or patience to be a business owner.  Not my forté in the least.  My lady lives there and I often crave something along these lines in the neighborhood when I’m there.  And I had (have) a suspicion that there are many who feel the same. I think someone could have a successful go at it.
