If I had to guess, I’d say that’s why the soft opening is continuing past the 2 week point. It seems there’s quite a bit of room for improvement with ordering and order fulfillment. Hopefully they will get it right soon. Would love to see them really succeed!

the woman who seems to be de facto second in command (if not literal manager) said that the "live" date will be April 1st. there are still some quirks, but i think the end product is worth dealing with those.

Joe DiStefano has a nice write-up of Farine's Mignano Bar.

Chopsticks + Marrow:

Farine’s Mignano is a Forkworthy Candy Bar

“Try this, the 2017 Iron Chef champ said as he handed me an ingot-sized chocolate bar. “This is our Mignano bar. It’s layers of cashew and macadamia nut caramel, dark chocolate, crispy nougat, and graham cracker crust, all covered in dark chocolate with black Hawaiian sea salt,” the bar’s namesake told me as I bit into it and held on to the counter to avoid fainting from sheer bliss.

Recently had the best brunch in town!!!   Pretty nicely orchestrated for a new place and the pastries were absolutely delicious.  Will also be my new "to go place" for baguettes. So nice to finally have a "blue ribbon" place in JH

Agreed. Delicious food. But loads of room for improvement on the operational efficiency side. Brunch today was yummy, but a little frustrating at times.

I had the frittata!  Although my service was fine, i do agree about the service when getting food from the counter. I suppose that this is true of any new place and that they will work out the kinks as time goes on.

it looks as if the soft opening will last a bit longer. when i asked about a menu today, the woman at the register said they'll have them on the 15th, for the "official" opening.

When I was there a few days ago, the counter workers were clearly overwhelmed. I was waiting for my order and a guy came to return something—he'd been given the wrong thing. Meanwhile there was another guy waiting impatiently because there was a problem with his order. When my order finally came, it was correct; it just took some time.

The thing is, it didn't look that crazy busy. I don't know how much table service was going on, though, or how that might have impacted the counter service.

I've only been once so far (two weekends ago, now): loved the items my party of 3 sampled: a couple tarts, the napoleon. Counter service was hectic: ordered with one person who gave the order verbally to another who inevitably lost track of what was said and forgot items. It was fine in the end after reminded the original person I ordered from, but was not at all efficient and added to everyone's wait time, for sure. They may have already changed this counter system. Martha's in Astoria seems to have a better counter ordering system: just ordering from the same person that rings you up. Lots of people to serve at the counter. I'll stop in again tomorrow or over the weekend.

We stopped in this morning around 10:30 and the counter service seemed a little bit more organized. There was no line, we got what we ordered, and the counter person was friendly. We were greeted right away when we walked in (by a kid/young teen who I'm assuming is 14 or so? or maybe younger but a family member of the owner? I've seen this kid/young teen behind the counter there in the past) and offered a menu and asked if we wanted brunch. There's definitely been an improvement.

There's also a sign up saying that bathrooms are for customers only, so it looks like they're aware of the issue that others have posted about regarding bathroom use.

Our bakery items were tasty as usual! :)

Yes, this is what I've encountered there. One time it was my order (given to the cashier and then passed on to a counter person) that got messed up, the other time I saw it happen but my order was fine. Maybe the cashiers should write the orders out for the counter help? Or they could have the people who take your order be the same ones who fill it, which is what I've found more often at other places. They might need to add a cash register if they do that.

This is the third time I've tried to go over for lunch and it is still amateur hour over there. They definitely need more crew for lunch hour.  I was asked to wait for a table but there is no organization for table service vs. people ordering at the counter and taking a seat.  I had to leave and get back to work.

Amateur hour continues. Farine does not carry bags large enough to hold their products right side up...

So sorry for everyone else, but I'm lovin' this place!  The bags, and orchestration of seating  may need some attending too , but the food and sweets here are hands down worth it!   Best cappuccino as well....IMHO
