Reporting back from my first visit. They already serve sandwiches on the weekend, and I had the avocado toast--topped with poached eggs and served with salad. Delicious.

On the downside--they do have a TV mounted on the wall though it's not turned on at the moment.

Brought home a pain au chocolate and a cheese danish to try later. The place is very busy--it's definitely a hit and the customers perfectly the reflect the makeup of the neighborhood.

Oh also, the neighboring table had the burgers and they do look just like the pic posted here. I asked the waitress who took my empty plate back to please suggest to the owner/chef that they do a salmon burger as well. That burger does not fit into our heart-healthy diet plans!

Looks nice!

How was the atmosphere eating a sit-down breakfast on a weekend? Just wondering because it always seems packed in there with a long line at the pastry counter, and I was thinking that it might feel a little hectic to have a sit down brunch.

Well, it's a pretty big place so you are not pushed up against the counter. But it is kind of hectic--they are still rocky. The person who took my order seemed like she was brand new to this. She gave me wrong info about the avocado toast (said it came with lox) and forgot to give me change while she was so busy trying to get my order going. But everyone is very pleasant and nice. It's like El Rico Tinto was, with customers giving orders at the counter, and then a waitperson brings the order to the table and busses the table later. So--not exactly table service. But it's an okay place to sit and eat, if not exactly cozy. Really similar to El Rico Tinto but bigger, so less cramped.

Sounds great!   But please don't think of El Rico Tinto in the past tense... they're still nearby at 74th & Northern!

They just lost me, and I thank them for that because I was really eating more pastries that I was suppose to.

They increased the prices, chocolate twist was $2.75, today $3.50
Cheese danish was $2.50 and I bought few today, she charged me  $3.00 each. I asked why, when price is $2.5. She told me she will change it now, this is the old price and again charged me $3.00

Customer service is everything.

this place isn't even officially open for business. they started the soft open about a week ago and you're complaining about a .50 cent increase in price. some people just live to complain. take it down a notch.

It is not about the money, it is about customer service. Price stated 2.50 and that is how it should be.
Otherwise, quality is great and I am sure they will have a lot of success. That's it.

if that was the posted price, you are absolutely right. they're handwritten and easy to change.

that said, all the counterpeople did say, on numerous occasions, that these were soft opening prices, the owner had yet to figure out final pricing on anything.

I think that poster Spooky is trying to say is that they are completely working out the kinks in the soft opening and there are bound to be issues like this. I was there on Saturday and only after looking at the receipt when I got home did I realize they charged me for three croissants when I only bought two. The counter people and the register people are all new and the place is pretty crowded and I would bet the cashier who told you the prices had risen was wrong. So I too would give them another chance. If you really are steamed I suggest you ask the owner about the prices. He is often behind the counter.

It's a soft opening and there are going to be glitches, especially considering they are probably more crowded than they expected. I've been three times and they made a mistake twice (they left something out of my order both times but I wasn't charged for the items they forgot). They'll get it together.

It's so crowded there with all the flavors of Jackson Heights, I doubt they'd miss anyone not going there...

I stopped in for a cranberry muffin on my way to work. It was incredibly delicious with a chewy/crusty exterior and custardy interior. At $3 still a deal compared to the stale pastries you get at Starbucks.
I am very worried for my waistline.

I waited to go there and today I finally went there and it was quite crowded. I bought a fruit tart for $6. and fruit tarts normally have a crisp pastry surrounding it, I was extremely disappointed as it was so soggy and the fruit did not look like it was from today. Not a good first time experience. I had take out, if I sat there and tasted it, I would of taken it back to the counter

Pretty impressive if you ask me. There's no place in JH that offers this level of quality. We had the  chocolate mousse, assorted rugelach  and an almond croissant. All 101% delicious.  Washed down with a cappuccino and a baguette go! They also gave out samples of flat bread with truffle oil. Can't wait to try their brunch.

My first visit there went fine—I ordered from a young woman standing behind the pastry case, then moved ahead and paid for what I ordered and the cashier gave it to me. Tonight, they'd changed the script and it did not go as well. I tried to order from a woman behind the case, but I was told I had to order from the cashier. I asked her the name of what I wanted (because, like most other things, it wasn't identified), then waited till a cashier was available. Now, she was very nice (I remembered her from before), but I told her what I wanted, and that I wanted two. She conveyed my order to one of the women behind the cases—and then she proceeded to wait on the next person in line and retrieve what he wanted herself. The next person behind him was waited on by the other cashier and served while I continued to stand there as the cashier discovered that the woman retrieving my order had fetched the wrong thing. She finally brought the right thing, but it was just one. Turns out I had paid for just one and was wrong when I assumed that the prices were delightfully low! So I just took the one and left, feeling very grumpy about their disorganization and inefficiency. (YES I KNOW, SOFT OPEN. But come on, paying attention to the customers when they order and paying attention to the cashier when she tells you what was ordered ought to be standard from the get-go.)

On the plus side: the cashier was very nice and apologetic, and the key lime mini cheesecake was delicious. And I will go back again, for sure. I just hope they get better at taking and fulfilling orders.
