Very true, some people take it personal ! business is business, this place rent is 12k/15k a month easy, they can afford to have people sitting around on a laptop ! Owner has many years of experience so I'm sure service and product will be where it needs for a successful business.

I may have already said this, but I for one just hope they have good coffee. Canelle is great, but their coffee is god awful. Believe it or not, Paris Baguette actually strikes the best balance between tasty pastries and good coffee. But it’s too far for me to go on a day that I’m not already there dropping my son off at preschool.

Spoke to the owner yesterday as well. Didn’t get a taste test (lol), but he seemed like a really nice guy.

Had a croissant this morning. It’s passable but Cannelle’s is better.

The whole cakes on display look unappealing though. Not the kind id expect from a pastry chef with experience at a high end place.

Went this morning. The croissant was certainly good, not going to supplant Cannell as the best in the area but very solid. The palmier I had  was better than Cannell’s. I hope they try their hand at the kouign amann, which cannell has but far too infrequently. It is an amazing French pastry.

The baguette, didn’t bother since I know what Balthazar’s baguettes taste like. Perhaps they should I’ll make their own when it’s fully open. Either way a freshly delivered Balthazar’s baguette would be welcome.

They also had what looked like amazing gelato. When they had a location on Long Island (port Washington) they offered “laboratorio del gelato”. Found a picture on their old yelp have never been.

Looking forward to trying their burger and other brunch options!

Welcome to the neighborhood.

we were on our way in to meet a friend for lunch in Manhattan, so didn't shop, but did stop in. the very nice counterwoman said she wasn't sure how long they'd be open today or tomorrow, but that once they're rolling, hours would be seven AM to ten PM

Congratulations to Michael Mignano.  Judgeing by the soft opening, it looks as though it is a big hit. I was quite pleased with my first visit yesterday morning, but would like to offer a suggestion. While I'm sure the cakes are very good, they are somewhat generic looking. Iwould really like to see more fruit tarts, turnovers, eclairs, and, dare I say it, COOKIES!

I stopped by at 4pm yesterday- it was packed and there was a long line, which was nice to see. I realized I was not hungry and decided to try again in the morning. Which I just did. This is going to be a great addition to the neighborhood.

First, it's just a soft opening - someone mentioned the lack of variety but they are going to have much more in about two weeks. The burgers will come from Smash Burger and they have La Colombe coffee, which I love!

thereisnosubstitute, they had kouign amann this morning and I just ate one; it was really good. I don't normally love almond cream but I bought it on a whim instead of a chocolate croissant. The dough is very high quality and well-made and the inside almond mush was not overly sweet, which is always appreciated.

The gelato wasn't out yet (I went at around 9am) and now that I think about it, I can't remember if I saw any bread  for sale (like I saw yesterday). I was focused on the pastries.

Edited:  hum@njukebox1, there were apple turnovers when I was there this morning.

it does look great, but outsourcing burgers from a fast food chain? will there be white castles for those who prefer smaller portions?

I believe it is a smashed burger that they will be serving not a "smash burger"
