I am so sad about this. Strange there is no note on the door and I checked the FB page. Nothing. I am going to reach out to a friend of the owner.

i owe an apology to several other posters here for forcefully insisting Farine would be back any minute. they're still saying that if you call Glen Oaks, but the fixture removal makes it seem really unlikely. that's a bummer.

I was by Farine’s Glen Oaks location last week and was given the same story about the JH location undergoing a kitchen repair. Unfortunately, the employee who gave this info was unable to provide anything further with regard to a reopening date. She seemed uncomfortable speaking about the subject. She did mention that owner, Michael Mignano was at Glen Oaks, but was busy in the kitchen.

Not only is it disappointing that the place is gone, it's disappointing that there was no honest communication about it. It was so popular with so many in the neighborhood, you would think the owner would at least post a notice saying thanks to all my loyal customers, it's been a pleasure serving you, but unfortunately we will be closing this location--the type of thing I've seen many businesses of various kinds do.  Instead, they ghosted us!

I almost feel like the Jackson Heights community was used as a testing ground for Farine/MM to see what would work before opening in a wealthier neighborhood. Honestly, I feel like Jackson Heights was being used. This is a slap in the face to us loyal customers who dealt with terrible customer service (not to mention some mediocre meals and baked goods) for months while they got steady on their feet. People continued to support them during the pandemic. They barely made an effort at outdoor dining when it’s clear that it would be popular (look how busy Romeo’s is!). I hope MM enjoyed his time playing around in Jackson Heights, enjoy serving your friends out in Glen Oaks. Here’s hoping that someone invested in our community will take over that spot.

P.S.  Canelle is better, and Lety’s is just down the street.

A lot of comments about Farine seem really unfair. We still don't know what is happening. Maybe they don't know either!

They were a great bakery and I hope they stay. But if they decide to leave, that's fine and good luck to them. They don't owe us anything. And they even provided free food during the worst parts of the pandemic.

Farine provided stellar customer service and unfailingly good meals and baked goods, beginning to pause or end.

I don't think it's fair to jump into any conclusions yet. I did see the chef at the outside shop two weeks ago and he had an apron on, but didn't look very happy. Let's just wait and see. In the meantime, continue to support other local businesses who need our attention at this moment.

I agree with 'R' we should all be more understanding,  especially towards food establishments, they're facing such challenging times, and uncertain futures.

I’m sorry, I shouldn’t be so harsh. I understand that it’s hard for all small businesses now and I’m happy to see that so many are getting business now with outdoor dining. I really do hope that our neighborhood businesses make it.

If Farine is really gone I will miss it. They were the first place we ordered from once our super strict lockdown-quarantine ended. We’ve been getting breakfast pastries there regularly for months.

That said, it’s frustrating and disappointing that a place with such a loyal and dedicated customer base closes up shop and has been SILENT about their plans for Jackson Heights when they’re seemingly doing business as usual in their other location. It makes me feel like their Jackson Heights customer base isn’t valued.

Here is a complaint I found about the store next door:

Quote
THERE IS AN UNBELIEVABLE VIOLATION OF THE CORONA VIRUS NON-ESSENTIAL CONSTRUCTION REGULATION AT 74-18 37TH AVE JACKSON HEIGHTS QUEENS NY 11372 THERE IS A COMPLETE DEMOLITION INSIDE THE LOCATION WITH THE OWNER PLANNING TO TOTALLY RECONSTRUCT AFTERWARDS. THE SIGN ON THE ADDRESS LOCATION READS MEGHNA CURRENTLY. THE ILLEGAL DEMOLITION AND CONSTRUCTION TO FOLLOW IS TRANSPIRING WITH TWO SHIFTS OF WORKERS NUMBERING TWENTY TO TWENTY FIVE WORKERS EACH SHIFT. THE FIRST SHIFT IS RUNNING APPROXIMATELY FROM 8AM TO 6PM. THE SECOND SHIFT IS RUNNING APPROXIMATELY FROM 6:30PM UNTIL MIDNIGHT. THE WORKERS HAVE THE SHUTTERS CLOSED SO YOU CAN'T SEE THEM ILLEGALLY WORKING. THIS ILLEGAL DEMOLITION WITH CONSTRUCTION TO FOLLOW HAS BEEN TRANSPIRING SINCE APRIL 20TH 2020 8AM AND IS STILL GOING ON. THE WORKERS HAVE THE BACK DOOR OPEN. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE EVERYTHING THAT IS GOING ON. AGAIN THEY HAVE ALL THE FRONT SHUTTERS DOWN AND THE FRONT DOOR LOCKED.

That complaint is from back in May but it might be related to whatever construction is happening in Farine now?

an odd complaint, since i recall seeing all sorts of legal permits for the "illegal work" that went on for a couple of months. but whoever posted the anonymous complaint on the anonymous website might know more than me.

and yes, Michael Mignano is a partner in the market next door, which seems to have some great produce (and seems to take up far too much sidewalk space in its daily operation).

If Farine is not operating now that things are coming back, especially since they heroically kept going most of the time through the worst of the shutdown, and instead is a storage space inside and out, I do not think it’s coming back ever. I’m surprised the signs are even still up.

I’m trying not to get too depressed about the dumping ground it has become, however good the produce that is overcrowding the sidewalk there.

But I’m still hoping I’m wrong and this is just some temporary set-up for the grocer until it can be back in business with tables inside....

There were two workers inside the Farine last night around 6:30 pm completely dismantling the counter. Literally ripping it out of the ground. Weird for "kitchen renovations" unless they plan to redesign the whole space. I really wish they were just more transparent overall with their customer base.

Someone recently asked Farine if they're closing, and below is the response. This is from Instagram, two days ago:
