Painting cost estimate
« on: January 13, 2019, 06:59:18 PM »
Hi all,

My wife and I just purchased a single home in Jackson Heights. The house is pretty up-to-date and we only plan to repaint the house (about 1350 sq ft each floor for 2 floors). Besides white paint for much of the interior, we already picked out the paint colors for doors, window panes, dining wall and bedrooms.

How much would it normally cost for this sort of paint job? I won't need a paint specialist or full-time contractor who come with premium knowledge, but just someone who is professional and meticulous with painting.

If you or family has used someone in the neighborhood and are happy about their service, please kindly recommend.

Thanks

We had our apartment painted (1000 sq ft) and it cost $4000, which was the lowest of several estimates (highest was $8k). Larry the Painter and his team did a nice job in about four days. I suggest you call a few and get some estimates.

i also used Larry the Painter for a smaller job, and can vouch for the quality of work and reliability of the painter (one of his employees). on time, perfect cleanup, very pleased.

4k/4days=1k/day.

If this was an 8h job day, and 3 people, that's $330/day or 40 bucks an hour GROSS for a business employee. All business expenses need to come out of this money.

It's not that much money!

unless its a very intricate job, I don't think it would take 96 man hours to paint 1000 sq feet.

If he's not paying them by the hour but as salaried employees, it still cost 96 man hours to do the work if it was 3 days of work for 3 ppl .

$4k is very reasonable (will someone share Larry the painter's contact info? I'll keep it for future reference). Painting is tedious work. It's worth every penny if you find a person who is meticulous.

My only advice is to make sure he does your ceilings too. Once your furniture is in there, it's the last thing you'll ever want to do. And if your plaster is in bad shape, I highly recommend skim coating too. Ours were done right before we moved in five years ago and the walls still look great.
