sigh.

i remember that fire.

and the interior "renovation" is dispiriting. i've mentioned this before, but my ex and i bought one of the Spanish houses on 75th Street back in the mid 90s (i stayed until we split in 2003, she kept it a few more years).

we were so happy that the owner (the second owner in its history) maintained all the old details, and we kept 95 percent of them, even when it meant spending extra. not long after we moved in, our next door neighbors, who were very nice people, invited us over for a visit. they'd moved in a year or so before us, and they had VERY different ideas, more akin to this. the woman very proudly took us on a tour of the sheetrock-covered details and track-lit rooms, saying "my husband made everything new!"

obviously, one nods, smiles and pays compliments in that situation, but, doggone, it made me sad to think about what was lost.

Sweet Jesus!  Does anyone know of a REALLY good painter?

It actually looks like a good job - just horrible color choices. If it were mine, I'd paint every wall white and restore some of the original wood moldings.
