The door was open yesterday at Arepa Lady and the place is completely gutted.  Since they took over the space in January, I was expecting to see it nearly finished.  It must have taken a very long time to receive the Permits from the City.  It won't open for many months.  Next month will be one year that Romeo's began working on its space and I have no idea what has been accomplished since the door is never open.  Sagar Chinese began working on its space in August 2017 and opened in mid January 2018.  I have no idea what the status is of the Pizza Place or the Sushi Place.  Anyway, by the end of the year we will see 4 new restaurants open below 78th Street.

Adding another 70s restaurant to this thread is Mama Rosas Pizzeria. The door was opened this morning, there signage is now up on the awning, & it looks cute inside. Hurray.

it does look nice! what appear to be wrought iron tables and chairs, some nice wall hangings. not fancy, but a long way from what Gustosa/Mario's offered in terms of atmosphere.

I think there are at least 11 new restaurants in the works between 74th Street and 82nd Street:

74-75 (Tibetan restaurant next to Friends Corner, Romeo's)
75-76 (Duo, Laly's, Tibetan-Japanese Restaurant)
76-77 (rumored Indonesian restaurant at Al-Aref, Swim Two Birds)
77-78 (Mama Rosa Pizzeria, Arepa Lady)
78-79
79-80
80-81
81-82 (Parva Bake Shop, Julieta's)

Am I missing anything?

I think it’s safe to take Swim Two Birds off that list at this point. But otherwise, very exciting.

I'm looking forward to Romeo's opening.  It's taking a very long time.  Romeo's began construction in mid August 2017 along with Sagar Chinese which opened January 15, 2018.  Is it the Liquor License that's causing the delay?  If so, why didn't they open without it and allow BYOB until they received it.  All these months paying rent without any revenue.

Yay! Saw them doing a soft opening a few days ago and the place was packed.

I'm also not sure, but I think Mama Rosa's is open? I passed by it today and there were signs in the window and it looked like it was open for business, but I can't be sure.
