Tailor/ Seamstress , prefer female
« on: May 03, 2018, 10:32:11 PM »
Hi everyone,

I have several vintage pieces I’d like to get tailored and fitted to me however, I have not had postitive experiences with a few places in the neighborhood and feel anxious just thinking about it. I would very much prefer a female going forward. I can go to Astoria, there are 2 ladies there, but I’d love to go do my fittings within walking distance.

If you know of anyone- please share!
Thanks so much!

The woman whose American approximation of a Chinese name is Lucy, runs the dry cleaner's on 37th near the corner of 85th. The official name is Bestway 37 Cleaners. Lucy has a no-nonsense manner and a good eye. I have never been uncomfortable trying things on in there, and she always does a solid job for a very reasonable price.

I am not sure. I've only asked her to shorten things or take them in. But you could ask her!

I've gone there for hemming, and once to repair a favorite pair of jeans that were so damaged they were practically ripping into shreds in one area. She explained that the repair was not going to look nice, but she could do it. And I was impressed. It was a really good repair- it extended the life of the jeans by a few more months. I probably shouldn't have been wearing them anymore due to their poor condition, but they really were my favorite and it was nice to get a few extra months :)
