Wow, this should enflame the gentrification debate taking place on other threads!

the back and forth over this whole debate begs the question. would the Queensboro, in its current state, with its current menu, even get a bit of notice if it opened on Smith Street or Columbus Avenue?

This is in no way a slap at the restaurant, its food, its service, its essence, all perfectly good. just wondering if the novelty of having a more typical "new American" style place is its main calling card here.

is "new American" synonymous with gentrification? I think not. This is the U.S. of America after all.

does diversity exclude white America?

"new American" is the descriptor used on Yelp, Google and every other restaurant rating guide. it's used for restaurants in Beverly Hills, Scarsdale and the Lower East Side.

i'm simply asking if the denizens of this board think the Queensboro would get as much notice if it opened in an area where it's not a unicorn of sorts.

again, not suggesting there's anything sub-standard about it. but if a new Thai place on the level of Ayada opened in Ditmas Park or Inwood, people would be doing backflips. here, people would say 'another Thai place, whoopee.'

Hi gang, I wanted to throw out some updates on the music we're going to feature at The Queensboro over the next couple of weeks!

Tomorrow, Thursday the 11th at 8PM, The Evan Schwam Trio will be playing a couple of sets of funky grooves and soulful ballads.

Evan is a NYC-born saxophonist/multi-reedist who lives in Jackson Heights. He's performed and recorded with many musical giants and he leads groups all over the world when he's not teaching music. The members of the trio are all alumni of NEA Jazz Master Chico Hamilton's Euphoria Band.

Needless to say we're excited about this one!

Then next week, on Thursday the 18th at 8PM we're delighted to host the Goussy Célestin Jazz Trio!

An evening of Jazz standards, blues, with some Caribbean sensibilities. Laid back but with some spice! with Goussy Célestin- Keyboards/vocals, AJ VanSuetendael on upright bass, and Dan Aran on drums.

And finally, don't forget to remind all teachers to come our DoE Happy Hour on Fridays. We are offering discounted drinks to all Department of Education employees from 2:30PM to 7PM!

See you at the Q!

Wow, urban pioneering is a really bad name - especially tone deaf in areas experiencing gentrification.

I finally was able to make it to The Queensboro and I had Saturday brunch with friends.  The experience was wonderful from start to finish.  The space is beautifully designed, the staff friendly and welcoming and the food superb!  I had Sweet Potato & Chorizo Hash with an egg on top that was delicious.  I highly recommend this restaurant and I'm so happy to see that they're doing well.
