It looks like Jackson Gyro may have closed. The windows are covered with paper

Sorry to hear that, but not surprised. They never received more than a grade pending since they’ve been open.

Sorry to hear this.  Must of been bad management.  It was the perfect location with the perfect venue for "Greek" food....although I'm not too sure they were true to their word, which may. be in part, the root of their demise.

Yesterday, 28 April, was Orthodox Easter...they were probably closed in celebration of Easter.

i doubt that they paper over the windows when they close for a holiday, and they're still closed now

they never seemed busy late in the day, which is too bad. the gyro was actually pretty good. but i don't think the owners could decide exactly what they wanted to do. it was still a bagel place in the mornings, then morphed into something else later in the day. i know the folks at JuJu's considered a similar concept but abandoned it before a full launch.

obviously, they could be closed temporarily. hope they're still around....

A friend of mine heard that Jackson Gyro is officially closed, and that a Portuguese BBQ place will be opening at the location. Of course, this may just be rumor at this point.

I am very sad to hear this. It was clean, fast, and friendly, and they had good bagels, delicious iced coffee, reasonably-priced sit-down breakfast, and some tasty Greek meals. It often seemed pretty bustling to me. Wonder what went wrong.

I thought that the owner of Jackson Gyro owned all the commercial space on that block. If that's the case, making the rent wasn't the issue.

Don't underestimate the power of the restaurant grading system. They were closed by the Dept of Health for a couple of days and never got past a grade pending again.  It seems to me that all their business stopped when that grade pending sign went up. I never understood why they didn't do whatever they needed to to get the A back. It's too bad. There food was good and a well-needed change in the hood.

I'm sorry to hear that, it was good, and had a friendly, nice, atmosphere. I wish them the best.

the grading system definitely has an impact on the habits of some consumers. but it's interesting, you say "the food was good," and you probably ate there when the violations were in place (after all, the inspection that closed the place came when the "A" rating was in the window).

^I recall when the shut down occurred I looked up what the violations were. Mostly it seemed to be the result of oversights from the renovation that had recently occurred. (There was one about flies, and yeah, sure that's not great, but it was also in the summer when flies are omnipresent.)

Who knows, maybe the whole point of the renovation was to sell the business.

They we’re never graded an A. Never made it past the grade pending.  Also, on the last inspection there was no one there with a food handlers license. That’s a big mistake, and it says a lot about  the lack of care.
