How can I stop/minimize squeaky floors?
« on: October 17, 2008, 11:53:06 PM »
Hi there,
It seems that the floors in my building are really squeaky. My neighbor above me gets up an hour before I do and wakes me up with the squeaky floorboards. I realized there's not much I can do about that.

The floors in my apt are pretty bad as well. I put down a rug in my entryway, and it doesn't stop the squeaking one bit. I'm concerned that rugs and pads aren't enough.

Is there anything else I can do so my neighbors don't suffer?

I've done some on-line research about this but never got around to asking a contractor.  It seemed to me that the solution generally involved approaching the problem from below -- which didn't seem like an easy solution when you live in a multi-story building.

Here are some of the sites I looked at

and

Also, just googling squeaky floor repair will bring up lots of other sites.
