This news is very upsetting, but may not actually be true, at least tonight. Please note, Desis Rising Up and Moving is urging people not to share rumors of this kind on social media. They say it does more harm than good...

I'll post more about DRUM's recommendations on this topic as soon as I see it.
From Facebook DRUM - Desis Rising Up & Moving : The reports of raids today and our responsibilities:
The Jackson Heights reports have so far turned out to be the usual abuse meted out by police. Not ICE
Staten Island raid is confirmed
Bushwick was home arrests
Manhattan unconfirmed
Spreading such reports online is causing more damage than helping people. Vast majority of undocumented immigrants are not following Facebook posts and twitter feeds of activists.
We had folks (over a dozen throughout the day) go on location and talk to workers (street vendors, etc) in area. It ended up being a waste of time and valuable resources.
Rumors are spreading in name of "colleagues", "friends", "friend's mom" etc but never able to trace original report
Those of us dealing with impacted communities are seeing the damage being caused is spreading fear and paranoia. People stop going to work, sending their children to school, leaving their homes.
Social media is NOT the platform to publicize such reports. We will be putting out a guidance tomorrow on best practices for sharing such reports and the rare instances that social media should be used.
