Prepared mincemeat for sale?
« on: December 15, 2016, 08:56:14 PM »
Where can I buy mincement locally to put into a pie?  I used to be able to buy it from Foodtown on 37th both in a large jar and as dried in a small brick.  Now the managers of groceries along 37th Street tell me that no one around Jackson Heights will buy it.  NO ONE has the holiday tradition of a pie of mincemeat (essentially, spiced dried fruit, especially apples and raisins)?

If you see some for sale in the baking section of a grocery store in Queens or Manhattan please let me know.

Thank you,

you can buy it online and while it may be a bit pricey, it won't be cheap in manhattan either (if you have to make a special trip, figure in the cost of transit too).

There's a big grocery store in the JH shopping center that seems to carry more americana-type products than the others.

I would call Butcher Block in Woodside/Sunnyside (off Queens blvd in the 40s. They are an Irish, English, Scottish trove of goodies. Call first.

Have fun.

I would also start with a call to the Butcher Block. Then there is this place in Manhattan that lists mincemeat as one of their products. http://www.myersofkeswick.com/products/seasonal/christmas/mincemeat-and-brandy-butter

Top of the photo shows a jar of mincemeat. This is from Butcher Block's Yelp page. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/butcher-block-sunnyside?select=YmQvpv19vxHsL2QMJUjQWA
So I would say it looks promising!
