favorite food spots
« on: December 01, 2016, 05:19:38 PM »
I'm new to the area.  I was looking for a little help in finding some food options that aren't Colombian or Thai.  Do we have Vietnamese, ramen, Korean, ect...

thank you

some excellent Korean. Chung Ki Wah on 74th, right at the subway exit, is my favorite, and Hae Woon Dae at B'way at 75th very good as well.

Try Phayul, a second floor spot on 74th and 37th road ,for amazing Tibetan and Coatzingo for Mexican.

Some excellent Peruvian places. My favorite is El Sol on Northern and I believe, 88th street.

It's not in Jackson Heights, but if you feel like going to Corona, there is a great Mexican place called Tortilleria Nixtamal.

Also, Casa del Chef in Woodside has amazing food. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/22/dining/hungry-city-casa-del-chef-in-woodside-queens.html

I'd recommend Unidentified Flying Chickens (UFC) for amazing Korean-style fried chicken and Zabb Sake Bar for Japanese izakaya fare, including ramen.  They are both on Roosevelt between 70th and 71st. Pho Bac in Elmhurst is great for Vietnamese.

Welcome to JH!

My favorite Indian places are Delhi Heights (74th st and 37th Road) and Indian Taj (the buffet) - it's on 74th near the big Patel Brothers supermarket.

Espresso 77 is great for coffee (77th st right off 37th Ave.).

Pizza:  Sac's or Louie's

Burgers:  Emoji Burger

Chinese:  Saw Shack

And try some of the momo carts!  Amdo Kitchen and Potala Fine Food (green van outside Diversity Plaza) have really good ones.

Soooooooo much good stuff. Some of my regulars are Maharaja for the thali, Aroma Brazil, Rico Tinto, Khao Khang (thai). Just about any Thai near or below Roosevelt is great. Tibetan and Nepali are great. Peruvian are mostly very good. Mex & colombian spots are kind of hit or miss.

Lots of great Mexican places, many few know about like Juquila, Mi Otra Casa, Tacos Morelos. Many few heh

Great Filipino food at Ihawan's (more bbqish based) and Renee's Kitchen (great fried chicken).  They are at Roosevelt and 70th.

For breakfast/brunch, "Juju's" on 76th is a great comfort spot.

I've been living out here for 4 years.  And I'm really amazed and delighted at how often great new places keep cropping up.

My favorite go-to places--for quality, vibe, ambition and all-around tastiness:  Phayul, Ayada, Rico Tinto.

And the hidden-jewel one or two trick ponies:  Esquina De Cameron, Arapa Lady and 969 Cafe.

BUT...here's one that some of you might dig, seriously tucked away, above Playground Thai on Roosevelt and 72nd.   A recent favorite and really nice staff to go with good food and fun vibe:

Jeow Hon is a gem. they had a seasonal summer dish that i've never seen before, and hope to see again next year -- a salad of salted egg and strawberries. we ordered it as a "show me" challenge, and we got shown in a big, big way.

It's a slight walk but uncle zhou's in Elmhurst has exceptional Chinese food, michillen recommended for many years and very inexpensive.
