Hey everyone-

I'm not sure what's going on outside but, 74th between roosy and 35th are closed. I live between 37 and 35 and my friend just went to move his car and was told to get back inside- nobody is allowed on the street or sidewalk.  There is a SWAT team, crime scene Unit,  fdnt and a giant robot thing. Im not sure if this is a hostage situation, an active
Shooter or..because of the robot I'm guessing it's the bomb squad...

Kinda scared- does anybody know what's happening???? :P

According to some "tweets" there is a hostage situation in a jewelry store on 74th Street. There's also a blurb about it on the pix11.com website

A trio of crooks tried to rob a Queens jewelry store while the shop’s owner and an employee cowered inside, police sources said.

Police initially thought the suspects were holding hostages at gunpoint in Kunal Jewelers on 74th St. at 37th Ave. in Jackson Heights at 7:30 p.m.

The thieves left empty-handed, and the owner and employee turned out to have been hiding inside until police arrived, sources said.

No one was hurt during the attempted heist, a terrified employee of the store told the Daily News.
