Seriously? You're moving, so you're dumping your cat? What kind of person would do that?

I just want to warn you, in case you care, that, if you bring this cat to a shelter, its chances of getting adopted, at age 8-10 are quite slim.  I assume you know what happens to pets that do not get homes.

Not that I agree with what you are doing, but I will try and help you re home her. Please do not take her to the NYC shelter because a cat that age has no chance of adoption and they will euthanize her.  Plus that is a horrid place for any animal to be in.   Can you give me a "personality profile"  Has she ever been around other cats, if so does she get along with them?  Is she playful, shy, dominant???  How long have you owned her??  Also a photo would help.

Hey cat people (I'm one) let's not be so judgmental.  People sometimes have to move long distances or into places that do not allow cats or dogs.  Chill.  Help this person out if you can.

I'm staying, someone else is moving from here. It's their cat, and they can't take it.

JackM if you were a "cat person" you  would not be saying that. You would find a place where they allow pets or just  sneak her in. There is NO excuse to ever abandon a pet. I couldn't imagine doing this and believe me I've been in situations. I don't know why people adopt animals thinking they could just get rid of them when they feel the need to.

Wow!  I happen to know both Jack M and Claudio - Claudio is trying to help someone out with this and trying to help a neglected cat so please don't attack Claudio, and trust me - Jack M is a cat person par excellance.  I will get his cat to give him a testamonial.  His cat says he's the best.

Yeah Liz, I was taken aback by the tone of the early replies to Claudio's post--no offers to help, just scoldings. Sometimes people need to make tough choices, and when they ask for help others shouldn't be so judgmental. Illness, financial problems, leaving the country, job/school/armed services.... Imagine someone going off to college. Where are they going to hide the cat, in their backpack?

I hope this thread has a happy ending.

Bellabella.  Please.  I NEVER said Claudio should abandon the cat or did Claudio even mention abandoning the cat.  I was only saying people should not judge why he/she must find another home for his/her cat.  People have all sorts of reason (health, moving, whatever) for having to give up a cat.  And it can be a very painful ordeal.  Let's help someone and not attack them.  The fact that this person went on JH to seek help shows how caring a cat owner they are.  People who abandon cats don't bother posting/asking for help.  And I am and have been all my life a cat person.  Have had cats since childhood and have loved each one of them.  Still have a cat and probably will always have one (or two.)

Please email me her photo and profile
I want

I'm having trouble attaching the photo. I've never posted one to a forum like this, if that's the term. Is your email or whatever available? I tried attaching it, but apparently it is too big.

Jeanette I would offer to help but my home is already full of rescues that other people dumped. My rant wasn't meant for Claudio, but the owner.  And I stand by my convictions. We have been through health crises, faced eviction from having a pet, spouse has been  near death, had babies, moved, gone to college, moved again etc etc. I have Never given up a pet. How do you love an animal for years and just leave? Call me crazy....
