« on: September 07, 2015, 06:20:35 AM »
Wondering if anyone heard what sounded like gun shots around 2:45 AM on Sept. 7 in the vicinity of the JH Post Office?

Yes.  It was around 2:55am last night and it many 'shots' I would say at least 10.
Neighbors, if you hear something like this you must call and report it immediately!
We just had a rape here, reported this week.  You can't shrug off what may have been gunfire.
When I called to make the report, I was not able to give any kind of definite location, but if enough calls come into the precinct they can at least investigate the general area.

Thank you for acting on your civic duty and reporting it. Too often people just sit back and let soneone else do it. I've been checking online news outlets and haven't seen any official report as of yet.
When I first moved to the 90th street area back in 1988 I had not heard gunshots before. Unfortunately...I learned and now report it when I hear it.
Be safe.

heard the shots -- four or so spaced apart, then five in rapid succession -- and must admit i didn't call in a report. too sleepy, no phone at fingertips, but should have called.

it was only the second time in nearly 20 years of living in the neighborhood that i've heard shots here. lived in flatbush, bed-stuy and on the LES in the early to mid 80s, so i know that sound al too well (though, oddly, the place i heard more shots than anywhere i've lived was the 'nice' part of astoria back in the early 90s. people there loved shooting guns to "celebrate," which i've never understood.

thanks for calling in a report. definitely the right thing to do.

I called them in too. They sounded like they were right outside my back window on 78th, between 35th and 34th. About ten of them or so, then a few later, further away. Never heard back from the cops.

I heard them too ..we're at 34th near 79th...and called 911 who said help is on the way.  Shortly after that we heard a few more shots sounding like it was in the vicinity of Travis Park.  I just called the 115 to see what the story was and the officer said there were numerous calls but he didn't see any final report and hadn't heard about any shootings when he got in.

It was a rather elaborate fireworks display being set off around 73rd and 34th. Thought it was gunshots too, but then saw the fireworks bursting right over the rowhouses.

There was a huge party...family gathering in one on the houses on 79th off Roosevelt and they set off fire works. Was walking home at that time and saw it.

Assholes.
Sums it up.
I would hope they were at least  fined for the disturbance.

What kind of people with no regard for their neighbors set off fireworks at ~3AM. We woke up and heard it as well. It was obvious it wasn't gunfire, definitely sounded like fireworks.

from my pre-JH experiences, the answer is young men in muscle shirts who get drunk on two light beers and think they're tough guys.
