Jackson Heights Life

The Salon of Seven Arts had quite an active presence in Jackson Heights in the 1920s and 1930s.  It was founded by Lilian MacDougall, wife of the developer who built much of the community.  It was established "as a protest against the materialistic trend of modern thought and an encouragement to high thinking and aesthetic appreciation, with the motto 'Why stay we on the earth unless to grow?' "
