Pics of Diversity Plaza

From Streetsblog:
http://www.streetfilms.org/is-this-the-first-nyc-community-board-meeting-in-a-public-plaza/

excerpt from article:
I can't say with certainty that this is the first NYC community board meeting held in a public plaza, but it certainly is the first I've heard of in my 22 years in New York City. On Thursday, Queens Community Board 3 held their monthly meeting amid the hustle and bustle of Jackson Heights' Diversity Plaza on 37th Road between 73rd and 74th Streets.

By my count the meeting began with at least 150 people seated or standing. Plenty of on-lookers stopped by and admired the proceedings. The plaza was quite crowded.

I venutred over to the arts festival and really enjoyed  all the art work. It should be done more often. I DO wish the square were more atrtractive with some greenery and trees, but I like this notheless.

Workshop on the future of Diversity Plaza
« Reply #170 on: October 09, 2014, 10:03:53 PM »
Diversity Plaza was created in 2011 as part of the Jackson Heights Neighborhood Transportation Study to create a new public space in a busy neighborhood and commercial district that lacked one, improve pedestrian safety at the 74th Street/Broadway/Jackson Heights subway station, and improve traffic circulation in and through the neighborhood.   Now that the community has gotten to know the space and see how it can be used, it’s time to start thinking about how to design the space for the future.

There will be an important public workshop on Saturday, October 18th, 2014, from 2-4 pm at PS 69 to discuss the future of our new town square.   Please join us!

If you can’t attend, but care about the future of Diversity Plaza, please take a few minutes to complete the Envisioning Diversity Plaza Survey.

Diversity Plaza is Jackson Heights Great Lawn, without the grass  :). Seriously, it is open-space in a community that has little.  Saturday's Visioning Session is an opportunity to weigh in on how the Plaza should look, what should happen there, and how the community can maintain the space.
Please add your voice to this important event.  Join us at PS 69 this Saturday, October 18 from 2 to 4 pm.
Look forward to seeing you there.

See my posting in Food Court shut down. This should be a topic here, too.

Hoping some of you who can make it will post some updates.  I won't be able to attend, but would love to hear how it went.  (So glad someone had the foresight to set up that survey!)
