Something was being filmed on 37th and 75th today....I imagine it was this!

I looked up the synopsis and Madhur Jaffrey is making an appearance!

Synopsis:

"7 To The Palace" is a heartwarming New York style Tandoori comedy. Samir (Aasif Mandvi) is a talented cook who dreams of being a great French Chef, but when he is forced to abandon his dream and run his fathers Indian restaurant in Jackson Heights, his life is forever changed. Learning the alchemy of Indian cuisine from a mystical larger than life immigrant cab driver, Samir manages to heal himself and his family, fall in love and turn a dreary run down greasy spoon restaurant into one of New York's most talked about eateries. "7 To The Palace" is about food, family, love, magic and New York. Also, starring: Naseerudin Shah, Kevin Corrigan, Madhur Jaffrey and Harish Patel. Visit the IMDB page: www.imdb.com/title/tt1153053/

Saw them this morning. PA's standing practically in the middle of 37th Street. You'd figure they would at least have the sense not to set up on a main thoroughfare. For all the excitement of having a movie made in your neighborhood it's amazing what a nuisance they can be.

Hmm they were fine when I passed by.  However if they're a nuisance to drivers on 37th ave., that's fine by me as, more often than not, drivers on 37th ave. are a nuisance themselves.  If they had done it on the weekend that might have been a more spectacular sight--all the people in their cars coming for their vegetables honk honk honking all the way.

I stepped outside my building and they were filming on the block adjacent to mine. 73rd below roosevelt. They were filming inside of an apartment building there in the middle of the block.  I spoke to a guy manning the snack station. He said the next four or six days they will be filming at a restaurant on 75th and 37th. they are renaming it tandoori palace or something like that. He didnt konw what the original name of the restaurant is...

He said some guy from the daily show was on there - an indian guy. and also Kevin corrigan who is not totally unfamous.

i wish i would have auditioned for it when it was in town. hey, im free days.

Does anyone know what they are filming on 74th Street just south of 37th Avenue?  They've been there all week...

Oh, fun!  Let us know if your lunch was prepared by a "talented cook who dreams of being a great French Chef," or just an actor who plays one.

My lunch was prepared by the folks at Jackson Diner.

Im going to write about it in detail on my blog now, so you can check stuff out there http://iwantmorefood.com

but ill sum it up here because i am not here to shop around my website....
so basically me and my friend waited most of the day inside the school on 37th and 78th. at about 2.00 they called us over to the tandoori palace to be people standing outside the restaurant. if the scene is used, i will be seen in the window. so thats cool . there were about 10 extras like me. some were locals some were from other parts of the city.

it was mostly waiting though, i felt like it was a waste of time - especially b/c i had 2 jobs asking me to come in!

i had to leave now, and my friend is still there. last i heard all they were doing was standing outside the restaurant so it looks like there is a line.

all the extras went to lunch in jackson diner and the crew ate in the school catered - by who, im not sure.

as a plus, I saw the little indian man from the wes anderson movies. he seems really nice.

so thats a brief report.

Not Kumar Pallana?!  He is a truly wonderful and hilarious actor... I always enjoy watching him.  He was great in The Terminal, and has had a fascinating career.  Cool that he's here in our neighborhood, and great that he's in this movie!

haha, ill tell you whats great about living here unlike the hipper areas of brooklyn I was once considering:
I can wear ANYTHING around these streets and no one cares. I just bought 2 awesome fedoras from the temple thrift shop. these things are so cool, and I love to wear them just to wear them. i don't really want anyone talking to me about them or making a big deal. just let me be 1950 and I'm cool to have fun with myself. If I were in brooklyn heights, it would be a self conscious fashion show.

so, the film crew came in. and now all of the sudden theres all these young hipster kids walking around the neighborhood. suddenly my anonymity is gone. yeah we were the ones with the hats.

Yes, I agree with you on this point.  I generally have no problem when I walk about with my ascot and smoking jacket on in the neighborhood.  I get an occasional snide remark from some rapscallions or threatening glances from drink-sodden popinjays, but I simply wave my gold tipped walking stick, and they get the message.

so, the film crew came in. and now all of the sudden theres all these young hipster kids walking around the neighborhood.

My wife said the same thing about the film crew, that they all look like "Williamsburg hipster types"!

Would you happen to know if they are planning one of those big Bollywood dance extravaganza scenes for the film?  Perhaps closing down the streets, and having those machines that create artificial rain, thus causing the sarees to cling to the female dancers, and having 20 male dancers in the background?  That would be interesting to see!
