NEW KEY FOOD
« on: January 23, 2014, 09:27:16 AM »
They were supposed to open the new Key Food in January.

The month is winding down. Does anyone know what is happening?

I had a brief conversation with someone recently about this, and they said that the delay has to do a lot with the labor dispute issues.  The basic gist was that in order for Key Food to open, Trade Fair has to first settle whatever labor issues are pending.

I went by there this afternoon to take a look. You can't see inside the store with paper on the windows and the gates down. But the exit door was clear. I stood at the door to look inside and a nervous looking guy was in there and spotted me. He just stood there with a look like "what do you want here, go away."

As much as I'd like the new store to open, I am glad that the labor disputes need to be settled first. I am hoping that they will renovate the store as it was in bad shape, which does not appear to be happening at the moment. I also hope that the new store is open 24 hours like Trade Fair was and as some Key Food locations are.

I'd rather Key Food open sooner rather than later, so as to thin out the crowds at Foodtown.

I do hope they rehire the workers from Trade Fair's meat department because they did a fantastic job. Although I don't understand why this is affecting Key Food. I would think this would be a dispute against Trade Fair and not Key Food.

pure conjecture on my part, but i'd say it comes down to two words:

shell game.

thinking it's a faux sale, just shifting a property within a partnership in an attempt to dodge union obligations and possibly other debts.  just a guess.

Hmmm...you may be correct dssjh...

The transaction appears to have been a touch too abrupt...to be completely legitimate...

Anyone know if the Key Food will be 24 hours?  I think that's what I'll really miss about Trade Fair the most.

When I passed by this morning I noticed that there were fruits, vegetables, and other perishable goods being brought in. I'm guessing this means they will open this week. It seems the store won't be renovated unfortunately, but hopefully it will be open 24 hrs.

Let's hope they at least cleaned it.  Yuck.  That place was disgusting.

No renovation, no new sign over the door, but they are moving in new perishables?
It all seems suspicious to me.

I suspect you're correct as well, which is why I will never shop there unless the Trade Fair workers are not hired.  The way they were treated was cruel an cowardly.

There's a small paper sign on the front door that says "opening soon, Wednesday January 29th"...
