I've been away from the board for a couple of weeks and this is such terrific news to come back to.  My dog is quite senior (13 human years) and doesn't much go in for dog runs anymore but I will help out where I can.

Thank you for doing this!   :-*

I hope everyone who is so supportive of this online is also contacting the two individuals (and probably more) who spearheaded this effort to volunteer and lend a hand (via Community Board support, and/or maintaining the dog run when it is operational).

Volunteered as soon as she posted.  Haven't heard back but I'm assuming it's too early to hear.

I checked with somebody familiar with the dog run project why it had apparently fallen off the Community Board's agenda without a vote.  The answer is that this is a New York State project, does not require CB approval, and will begin construction in early 2009.

I assume it will be on the north side of the underpass. There's a large overgrown grassed area there that seems to be about the right size. It seems to be in shade, which is good. Our dog overheats like a bad American car in the summer.

That's why I drive a Volvo!  You have to buy a car seat for your dog.  It's hysterical but it's safer then having a dog slide around the seat unprotected.  Wait you guys don't have a car, right?  Here's a photo anyway cuz it's funny.

Reminds me of Toonsis the driving cat.

Is there any news on the status of the dog run? We just got a dog, and I'm really excited about the prospect of taking him out soon! I'm also going to email about helping out!

I'm curious too - we're expecting to close on an apartment very soon and move to JH - any updates/delays/groudbreaking on the dog run? Is there some way that we can help make sure this happens?

Anyone heard any news on the Dog run under the BQE at 35th Avenue?  The old posts say construction to start in early 2009, but I see no movement?  Is there anyone out there in the know?

On 11/29 I got an email that said:

  • The park is scheduled for construction in the spring of 2009
  • Once it is completed, the upkeep of the park is going to be up to us, and the other dog owners in the area

along with a spec of the plans. I'm going to try to attach one to this post. There's an email address that you can contact to get on this "list", though this email is the only one I've gotten.
