1) valuing property values more than human life.

1a) treating the homeless like cockroaches.

2) complaining and not getting involved. (I have total respect folks who complain, but *do* get involved, even if we sometimes spar).

sl - GSMAYES - hfm:

This is not a trolling, there is a point, and I am not a joke.
No one loves JH more than I do. And I think I can easily say that I have lived in the neighborhood longer than 3/4 of the members here. I am not putting down the place where I live. i happen to love it. But sometimes we do have take a truly objective look at things. That also means having a sense of humor about it and ourselves.

If that causes anyone to think then it's a good thing. Lighten up.

And for the other contibutors, thank you. What I hope to see here are thoughts for us all to consider for 2014 as the new year approaches.

Hi Beechie! I thought your original posting was fine and was glad to add to it.

dssjh - yours are spot on, too.

This isn't paradise, but it isn't the 7th level of you know where.
My thoughts

Frankly, I give Starbucks a pass. I like it, the coffee, the elbow room and the couch & chairs.

Now if Arunee has a decent bar, I might turn into a happier camper.

On the negative side:
19. Jax Heights, Jack Heights
20. Office furniture al fresco.

most of this doesn't really bother me, but I would like a beer bar with good pub food.

Why are there no trash cans on 34th or 35th?
Starbucks guy, is he homeless? Has a cell and a fresh cup daily, Jw....
Why are people so scared of larger dogs when the smaller ones seem the nastiest?

"Starbucks guy"'s name is Ben. He neither asks for, nor accepts money. He mostly lives on the street, but has a place to stay when it's really necessary. He's a very smart man who does not drink or indulge in drugs. talk to him sometime. he's great.

there are no trash cans on 34th or 35th because they're residential streets, the residents -- especially in the historic district -- have demanded there not be any. or so i was told in '97, when i first asked that question of the cops and elected officials.

why are there no trash cans on 73rd street and 37th avenue, that's my question. And there are scant all around little India.
