I live in a co-op and contribute much of my time and energy to the garden. Our garden is close to the rear apartments, and loud music and noise is certainly inconsiderate of those residents. Limiting "play" to certain hours makes little sense to me. Children don't just sit on the grass, they run and play and chase each other as we all did as kids. That's what children should do, but the garden is not the place. Stepping on a 4 year old shrub can kill it, and we neither have the money or patience to replace it and wait another 4 years for it to mature. I love seeing children and families in our garden. We encourage them to sit at our tables, read, have picnics, tell stories, and enjoy the fruits of our labor. Is it too much to ask them not to trample the plants and shrubs that we've nurtured? Our gardens are for everyone to enjoy, but that comes with a responsibility to treat them well. Our garden rules are a reasonable compromise, and our residents understand the need and abide by them.
