I'll be co-leading the Queens leg of this year's 9th Annual Memorial Ride and Walk, on Sunday, April 6, 2014 (Rain Date is the following Sunday, April 13).

We will meet at Diversity Plaza at 12 noon, and then ride to the official start at 94th St. & Liberty Ave. by 1 PM.

This is a slow-paced, respectful ride to raise awareness and pay tribute to traffic casualties over the last year. Bike riders of all levels are most welcome, and there are segments for pedestrians as well.

The full schedule is here: http://ghostbikes.org/node/1036

Please note there are simultaneous rides in different boroughs, which all converge near the Williamsburg Bridge in Brooklyn at 4:30 PM.

The Annual Memorial Ride and Walk brings New Yorkers together to remember pedestrians and cyclists killed in our city over the past year. This will mark the ninth year that this event has occurred. Riders will visit the site of each ghost bike, a white-painted memorial for cyclists, installed since 2013. Please help us show solidarity with the family and friends of those lost by joining us for this important event. Bring flowers and other items to honor those lost.. The ride has been growing each year and with the rising accident figures, it's important to show unity and support for the safety of all, as well as sympathy for the loved ones of the casualties.

Hope to see you out there on the 6th.

We no longer have our Ikea Ektorp love seat, so we are selling two slip covers we bought as spares. The asking price is $100.00.

They are a cotton blend, and are machine washable:

1 Dark ("Idemo") Blue, BRAND NEW, NEVER USED, still sealed in original packaging!

1 Light ("Svanby") green, lightly used condition. There are a few small stains and blemishes but this is a good spare for when you want to launder your other ones or just want a change of color.

The colors can be seen here: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S09932592/

One new slipcover will cost you $150 plus shipping/tax at Ikea so, for a new one AND an extra in excellent shape, this is a great deal.

These come from a smoke-free home; we are a married couple with no children, so our furniture stays in pretty nice condition.

Please feel free to email with any questions.

We are selling an Ikea IVAR shelf unit with 20" Deep center section, and 12" angled sides.  We are asking $100.00

It consists of:

- a center section with five deep shelves (19 5/8" deep, 35" wide) - this unit alone sells for $83 new http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S29896362/

- left and right side sections with angled shelves (these are a great size which was discontinued and are no longer available at Ikea); these side shelves are 16" wide, left to right. They narrow in depth (front-to-rear) from 19 5/8" at the inner part to 11 3/4" at the outer edges, and have 12" deep uprights at each end. These uprights cost $12 each new, not counting the angled shelves - we are including five angled shelves for each side (ten angled shelves total).

Essentially the asking price is less than what you'd pay for the center section and two 12" deep uprights, plus we are throwing in 10 angled shelves (which are no longer available from Ikea) for free.

Also included are the pegs for supporting the shelves (fully adjustable in height, just move the pegs up or down as desired). and a steel center brace which screws into the rear of the center uprights (you'll just need to supply your own four wood screws and a screwdriver for this). Assembly and shelf height adjustment is super fast and easy.

The entire unit is very sturdy and made of solid pine, which looks great as is, or is ready for stain or paint, if you prefer. The height of the uprights is 70" (5' 10").

We no longer have our Ikea Ektorp love seat, so we are selling two slip covers we bought as spares. $130 for the pair.

They are a cotton blend and are machine washable.

1 Dark ("Idemo") Blue, BRAND NEW, NEVER USED, still sealed in original packaging!

1 Light ("Svanby") green, very lightly used, nearly new condition.

The colors can be seen here: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S69885903

Please feel free to email with any questions. We work in Manhattan (Columbus Circle and the Financial District) and can bring the covers in if it is easier to meet there.

Community Trade and Classifieds / Two Ikea Poang Chairs
« on: December 04, 2010, 02:56:47 PM »
We are selling two IKEA Poang chairs and matching footstools. $150.00

[/img]They are in great condition, and come from a smoke-free home.

Both have identical frames of dark reddish brown cherrywood; this color frame is no longer available.

You can see the current range of Poang chairs and stools here: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/series/07472/

1. One chair/stool set features a thick and buttery smooth brown leather cover that is starting to break in and develop a nice patina.

2. The other has a soft but durable red cotton twill fabric. Please note: we are selling the matching wood foot stool, but it has no cushion.

You can still buy new cushions, and different color/fabric covers from IKEA and change the look/feel as suits your mood.

Purchased new, these two chairs and stools would cost over $400, so this is a steal.

The pieces all disassemble easily with an allen key; the red cotton chair's footstool is currently taken apart, but I can assemble it for you if you want.

You are also welcome to take the chairs apart here if it is easier for you to get them home that way.

The Transportation Alternatives Queens Committee works on various goals and issues to improve quality of life in Queens in support of TA's mission to reclaim New York City's streets from the automobile, and to advocate for bicycling, walking and public transit as the best transportation alternatives.

This month’s TAQC monthly Bike Ride is going Pedestrian! Join the TA Queens
Committee for a walk along the entire length of Queens Boulevard. From
Queens Plaza to Jamaica, Queens Boulevard passes through Sunnyside,
Woodside, Elmhurst, Rego Park, Forest Hills. One of the only through roads,
Queens Boulevard’s identity as a quasi-highway has led to it’s reputation as
the Boulevard of Death. Help us explore it’s vast diversity and identify
areas that could use improvement.

Queens Boulevard is a little over 7 miles long. Feel free to join us for
smaller sections of the walk, if the whole route is too much for you. We
will also make stops for food and drink along the way. Check the Facebook or
Google Group for more details and contact information. If you RSVP “yes” for
this event, but have to change your mind, please make sure to update your
status so we can get an accurate idea of who will be attending.

Streetfilms just posted a video of last month's ride: http://www.streetfilms.org/archives/queens-blvd-bike-pool/

This ride is a slow, easy ride that occurs every second Friday of the month.  It is a group ride at easy pace, with all riders wearing orange "Share the Road" vests (provided for the ride), heading eastward down the south service road of Queens Boulevard.  It was started following the tragic death of Asif Rahman, who was killed while riding on Queens Boulevard in February 2008.

The ride meets at the Queens end of the 59th street bridge. We leave at 6:30 PM and the ride usually lasts no longer than one hour. Again, we ride slowly, for a show of presence to motorists, pedestrians, local merchants and other cyclists, who we welcome to join us.  We observe all lights and other traffic rules. Please bring your front and rear lights if you have them (and you should!)

The ride ends in a different spot each month; this month (Friday June 12) we are planning to turn right at the Queens Mall and go for Burgers at [url"http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=11372&daddr=73-25%20Woodhaven%20Blvd.,%20Queens,%20NY,%2011385"]Five Guys in Glendale.  If you would like to join us for dinner, please remember your bike lock!
