Neighborhood Chat / Re: BAR

There used to be a lot of bars, taverns and cocktail lounges in Jackson Heights.  Then, I quit drinking and, one by one they all closed.  :P

Oh Boy!  It looks like it's going to be a while before Armando's is up and running.

I recently had my kitchen electrical service upgraded during a renovation. I can highly recommend Ral-Bar Electric of Woodside.718-786-9430 www.ralbarelectric.com  They are properly licensed and insured to work in our co-op and a pleasure to do business with. Their price was reasonable for the work involved and they were always here when they said they would be here. I know when I looked in May there were no recent listings so I wanted to let every one know about a great find.

I ended up using Ral-Bar also and I enjoyed an excellent experience.  Ralph (Owner) was on time and his mechanic Justin well suited to the small but important things I needed done.  They were VERY clean and insisted on taking out all the trash, even the boxes for fixtures that I provided.  The hourly T&M rate they charges was absolutely resonable for the valuable service they provided.  I would reccommend them without reservation.

Yes.  I can highly recommend John Pastore (718) 746-1161.  I found him to be competent, honest and fairly-priced.

Thank you.

Thanks!  I found someone but it's always good to know about competent contractors.

Any chance you'd recommend the person you ended up using?  Thanks!

I LOVE the Original American Chicken!  I've never had a bad meal there.  The chicken is always fresh to me and is never dry or overdone.  Love their sides that are all homemade and fresh.
Very grateful that they are open and serving later in the evening.  Great Job!

I don't mean to wax nostalgic just for the sake of doing so.  However, I grew up here and I can remember when there were no roll-down gates in Jackson Heights, let alone mobile SkyWatch cranes.  Times have changed and for all the good reasons mentioned in the posts prior to this, it is as important as ever to use every piece of crime control available to us, regarless of asthetics. Crime is always going to be a part of life in this city.  But we must not deny ourselves use of the best possible technology just because we don't like the way it looks.  No one here knows exactly how it works (and if they do, they're probably not announcing it on an open forum) so to dismiss it as just another municipal eyesore is a gross misjudgement.

Neighborhood Chat / NYPD Mobile Observation Tower

Just curious if anyone knows exactly why the NYPD has put a mobile watch tower on 37th Ave @ 81st Street?  I saw them deploying the tower last night and I can only assume it's going to be there for awhile.  First time I've seen that in the neighborhood.
