Restaurants & Food / Re: Sweet Lucca

So interesting that a place like this could survive on so few items. Remember the shop that sold bubble tea? I'm all for it, but how can that be enough to sustain a storefront business I wonder? I love rice pudding, but currently I'm dairy free--but maybe they do a non-dairy option.

The store looks great and a nice addition to the avenue.  I agree, I don't see how a store can pay rent offering only a few items.  We will have to wait and see if their business model works in JH.

November 16th Donovan's posted on their Facebook page about Thanksgiving meals for $14.95.

Turkey, turkey stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, choice of mashed potatoes or turnips, choice of string beans or corn.

I have not seen any place that is cheaper.

Restaurants & Food / Re: Cannelle vs. Farine
« on: November 23, 2020, 09:08:09 PM »
I thought Farine was exorbitantly priced for this 'hood and for undistinguished pastries and bread.  Astonished that the locals were paying that much for their treats.  Whereas Cannelle seems like a genuinely home-made-but-exceptional quality bakery and the prices more appropriate. I agree that their chocolate mousse cake is 'out of this world.'  I've gotten large layer cake versions and party guests rave.

I was a frequent customer of Farine but I agree their prices were based like they were in Manhattan.  Despite the prices I miss the white bread.

Do we know what is going in?  A Shake Shack would be nice.

Donovans on 58th and Roosevelt has Thanksgiving dinner for $14.95 a person.  Basically the same price as Boston Market and you are supporting a struggling locally owned business.

The BQE underpass at 35th avenue has a sign from a NYC agency that states they will be removing belonging left.  In the 2 months since it was pressure washed, it still seems rather clean except for the bird droppings.

The homeless population has moved from the underpass to private properties in the lower 70's.  Tuesday night I had 3 individuals drinking, smoking and passing out on my front steps.  Saturday night I had a homeless man sleeping on a mattress in my neighbors parking spot and peeing in my garden.  By the time police came the guy had left.

Update:  Forgot to mention the location of the Army Barracks
in Jackson Heights would be Northern Blvd & 71st/72nd Street.
Sure would be nice to hear from someone who remembers that
area.

Would the houses have been right on Northern?  My family has lived on 71st between Northern and 34th for 70 years.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: How to improve 65th Street?
« on: August 14, 2020, 05:01:32 PM »
Today the NYCDS came with 2 big trucks and cleaned the graffiti off of the tile under the BQE underpass on 35th ave.  I was hoping they would have cleaned the garbage and pressure washed the sidewalk and also cleaned the markings by the dog park.

Real Estate & Home Improvement / Solar Panels on Houses and Buildings
« on: August 10, 2020, 04:58:15 PM »
I am interested in having solar panels installed on the flat roof on my house.

Do any buildings or houses in JH have solar panels?  If so what company did you use?

Real Estate & Home Improvement / Windsor construction
« on: July 28, 2020, 12:25:37 AM »
Hello,

As a resident who lives in the low 70's it is always a pleasure to see the pristine condition that Windsor is kept.  This has changed since work is being done on the building and a scaffold is up.

Does anyone know what type of work is taking place?  I sure hope they don't do anything that changes the appearance of the grounds and building.

To deal with these issues...is it 311 you should call?

I called 311 to report the encampment under the BQE and the area around 65th street.  When I told the guy the location he said someone called last week and reported this.  I have my reference number and will wait for an email update.

The BQE underpass on 35th avenue is filled with garbage.  You can't even walk through without stepping on garbage.  Also mattresses along with other items block the pathway.

Also around the BQE at the 65th St subway station...

There's a homeless encampment and trash is everywhere.

Actually, talking about trash, our resident bagman has annexed a bench outside Food Dynasty and filled it sky high with garbage...

Apparently, he has an apartment somewhere in the neighborhood...perhaps he could be persuaded  to keep his trash treasure there? Tho I pity his neighbors.

This is all definitely a health hazard.
