Restaurants & Food / Re: new restaurant at Roosevelt/75th

I literally came back on here after like two years of dormancy to find out the 411 on this place, having just noticed the new facade today. Having a second kid does terrible things to your priorities. Hahaha.

If you’ve seen me post on the original Laly’s thread you know I’ve lost count the number of times we’ve been. We’re welcomed like family when we arrive nowadays. Love it here.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Electric Car Charging Stations

Where are electric car batteries coming from?

Where is the elctricity coming from?

Perhaps not so green after all....

Even with the worst mining practices and powering them with the dirtiest possible electricity (coal), electric cars are still cleaner than gas or diesel. And of course, that isn't realistic, as the power we do get is cleaner than that and getting cleaner. So hopefully this will put your doubts to rest, and you can stop making this objection.

Or equally importantly, what does it take to get rid of them?

They get recycled. The raw materials alone make them too valuable to just throw away.
Thank you.

As an electric car owner, I’m happy to hear this news. But alas, it’s not going to save me from having to pay for a garage to park/charge it.

I wouldn’t get too excited. It’s still going to take a few months for them to finish, I would imagine.  But yes. It’s happening.  I actually get fantastic service with Spectrum. But they’re charging me a lot of money. So, I just plan to use fios as leverage. But if they don’t wanna play ball, then I’ll switch.

I don’t believe that it’s the entire stretch from 37th to 34th. I can only speak on 37th to 35th Ave, where I live, but I only ever recall seeing these signs covering the distance of a few spots close to the corner of 37th Ave.

Biking in NYC requires the same ingredients as driving in NYC: Safety + Confidence. Be safe, but don’t pussyfoot around or else you’ll put yourself in danger. I’ve ridden numerous times from my old place in LIC to SoHo. The only danger is in getting to work smelly from the workout.

Jokes aside, a lot of it has to do with confidence and sure-footedness on the pedals. If you are scared of the “what if,” then you shouldn’t do it.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Car Free days in Jackson Heights?
« on: April 28, 2019, 12:34:28 PM »
I would absolutely like car free days on 74th st or 82nd street - 74th should be car free all the time

Love the idea of 74th being permanently car-free.
Tricky thing about that is that it’s also a bus-route street (Q47 and Q49). But in spirit, I think an idea like this is really interesting.

I’ve passed this place a number of times. Didn’t realize they were new. I wish I had more of a sweet tooth to support them with. Haha.

If I had to guess, I’d say that’s why the soft opening is continuing past the 2 week point. It seems there’s quite a bit of room for improvement with ordering and order fulfillment. Hopefully they will get it right soon. Would love to see them really succeed!
Agreed. Delicious food. But loads of room for improvement on the operational efficiency side. Brunch today was yummy, but a little frustrating at times.

I can attest, it’s actually very common in other parts of the world.

I’ll say, though, didn’t LOVE the coffee here.

Yes, convenience of location is so important--we live in the 70s and have been to Urubamba and liked it very much--but the truth is, we are too lazy and/or tired to walk all the way up there, so when we dine out in the neighborhood, it's always within just a few blocks.
Same. Though when we want Puruvian, Anzuelo Fino takes the cake.
