Neighborhood Chat / Re: New Retail Spaces on 73rd Street

It'll be interesting to see what happens when the DOT closes 37th Road (between 73rd and 74th) to traffic.  That's supposed to happen sometime this month.

As for closing 73rd to traffic- I think that's a bad idea.  What do you do if you live on 73rd and you own a car and you're lucky enough to have a space in your building?  If there was a way to close 73rd to all traffic other than locals I would be very much for that, but I don't think that's really feasible.

Really?  A grocery store?  Where did you hear that?  On 73rd between the Birchwood House and Kabob King are several new storefronts- I think around 4 of them- that's what I was referring to in my post.  Are those spaces the food court you were talking about?

Wish I could share you enthusiasm for a grocery store. I think it's horrible for residents of 73rd.  That street is already too congested and a grocery store will just bring more congestion, garbage, and pests.

Sigh.

Neighborhood Chat / New Retail Spaces on 73rd Street

Does anyone know any details about possible tenants in the newly-renovated retail spaces in on 73rd St. by 37th Rd. (in the old Eagle Theater)?

I heard a rumor that a Starbucks might be moving into one of the spaces.  Not sure if that's true as none of the spaces look big enough for a Starbucks to me.  I'm not a fan of Starbucks (I think their coffee is burnt and overpriced), but I'd rather have them than a cheesy $.99 store or another fruit stand that will add to the sidewalk congestion.

Neighborhood Chat / Birchwood Scaffolding

The scaffolding that has been in front of the Birchwood on 73rd Street is finally down!  When I came home last night and saw the building I thought I was on the wrong block.  It looks so much better; changes the look of the whole block.   I moved into the building a year ago so I've never seen it without the scaffolding.

Yay!

Hi there!  I've been lurking around here for a while.  Since my wife and finally closed on our apartment in Jackson Heights, I thought it was the appropriate time to introduce myself.  So hello!

Marlene,

Are any of those garage spaces still available?
