I apologize for sharing my point of view. If I’m not mistake since the creation of this forum, if not most past users have essentially complained about Jackson Heights not being clean! Too loud!!! Not enough book stores!!! Not enough big box stores!!! We don’t want it to be Austin street!! Those mannequins!!! 74th street is a dump!!! The carts!!! The gangs!!! The parks!!! I’m sure it can go on. But all these issues have essentially been addressed not over night but gradually. So I applaud you for killing the “CHARM!” in the neighborhood. As we make sure to conserve the garden apartment aspect of it, but gradually strip it of its ethnic cultures. THE RENT IS TOO DAMN HIGH!

It’s a form of colonizing but on a smaller scale. Cheers to you!

Watching a group of men slowly poison and destroy themselves on a street corner is an odd definition of "charm".

Well I hope you have found it in your heart and extended help to them. Or at least them know how you’ve felt. At this rate sounds like we’re talking about an exhibit.

The address of one Spanish speaking AA is 38-21 99th St. They will find sponsors there.
Help is available. From experts.

Colonization exactly. Well don’t sweat it it’ll be taken care of eventually. Just like everything else you’ve vented about since 2015. Cheers to change!

Alcoholism is a disease. Just like cancer. If they had cancer, then they should go to Elmhurst hospital. To the experts. Folks who are not experts in alcoholism or cancer...should leave the treatment of diseases to the experts.

Colonization is irrelevant to this fact. And you are mixing the two incorrectly.

Let me know when you run office.

And I wish you well on your journey learning that attempting to be a provocateur... is simply a way of avoiding facing hard truths.

That you’ve been complaining about the state of JH since 2015?

That instead of helping just venting on the local forum about how much the drunk Latin men in front of a post office has been grinding your gears since you landed in our neighborhood? But lack compassion?

If you have enough time to respond to my messages you have enough time to leave you’re co-op apt and help another human life.

I’ll be looking forward to your next post “Bring back the golf course to Jackson Heights!”

 ;D ;D ;D

Now I seriously bid ya farewell I’ll be back in a few years thanks for the affirmation!  :-*

I’ve lived in JH all my life and went to PS69. They’ve always been there and have not bothered longtime residents. Please stop trying to turn our neighborhood into the small towns that you’re from. If it really grinds your gears maybe you should run for office. #gohome

Here's an article that explains fanesca, "an Ecuadorian specialty served during the week before Easter," and samples it at Mi Pequeno Almavar in Corona.

great article! We didn't have Fanesca this year =( but all ecuadorians do have their own version we use salted cod instead.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Gentrification thread

Personally I just think Jackson Heights Residents are spoiled me being one. Our neighborhood is so alive literally at all times during the day and night. It can be 3AM and I know I can go buy food at a restaurant or cart(Pollos Marios, Tacos, Sammys, Kebab King, perrada de chalo, Dunkin Doughnuts, Ihop)... Ran out of milk?! don't worry you have trade fair, Walgreen's, 711, Duane Reade, rite aid all open 24/7, Head hurts well you already know most of pharmacies are 24/7... Making a gourmet Asian meal? Why go to whole foods to buy Asian ingredients when you can shop at our local Asian markets and purchase them at a much more reasonable price  (Korean, Chinese, Indian, Japanese) Don't like starbucks and rather enjoy really coffee by baristas rather than a some lady pressing buttons go to E77, I really don't know why we complain, in the end i just think were a bunch of spoiled brats asking for more!

Those are my two cents. Take the subway or drive to trader Joe's, whole foods, etc... and stop being lazy.

As much as i hate to say this but can't we get like franchise theater companies to open shop? or find some one willing to do it? AMC?  Don't know exactly how these movie theater companies work.

I think that we as Jackson Heights residents are really lucky to have an Italian renaissance style theater, not many left in nyc, except for the ambassador theatre and a couple of others that are in the city. We can't lose this gem!! lets fight for it get your torches lets make things happen!  lol

Restaurants & Food / Re: Louie's Pizza

How is Joey D's on 82nd Street ? They used to have the best pizza around. When I worked there in the early 80's we would get calls from Middle Village to deliver  :o

If it was the Joey D's by the Jackson Heights Triplex, that place closed down a while ago. It's a taco joint now.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Writing on street lampposts
« on: October 21, 2009, 10:11:05 AM »
This morning on my way to work 4:30 am I saw this man sitting on the sidewalk by a lamp post few feet from 35-36 76th Street (north/west of street).  I thought was a drunk/homeless person that fell asleep against the lamp pole, but turned out to be the man that have been writing around on the hood lamp post.  He was holding a magic marker and writing his soul away.  He really looks homeless.  He was wearing a dirty dark blue hooded jacket and a burgundy/red knitted cap.  He was acting very strange......perhaps because I saw him? :-\

Yeap that was him.

14
can we protest this? or something is there any way to fight this?

Too lazy to read the entire thread. I've actually seen the person who writes on the lamp post's and it isn't a child or teen. I greeted him, and he became frightened thinking that I was going to hurt him I told him not to worry that I meant no harm and I really don't care that he writes on the lamp posts. He only speaks Spanish nice guy, asked him some questions he just responded that his writing is about what people don't know, and he told me that he is from everywhere, when I asked him what country he is from. I just concluded to myself after the ten minute convo that he isn't exactly sane but than again who am i to diagnose some one.
