Thats impressive.  Unfortunately for myriad reasons its not an option for our building at this time.

My building is looking to switch our management company.  Would really love to hear suggestions from others in the neighborhood as to who to use and also who to steer clear of.  We have All Area currently and are very unhappy, we've switched through several managers with them already and they are not proactive and at times basically negligent.

I understand through the grapevine that the Monroe recently dumped All Area as well, would be interested in learning more about that and who they went with instead if anyone here knows enough to share.

I don't know how long it takes a review to post but my review hasn't shown up yet. If the restaurant has any moderating capabilities that kind of defeats the purpose...

I'd be terrified to eat anywhere that had 4 stars in that case.  Yuck.

I guess for now I'll stick to ordering sushi for lunch at work in the city.

I was surprised they delivered to Jackson Heights... perhaps Astorians closer by have already learned their lesson.

Restaurants & Food / Maggots in sushi from Kumo Japanese
« on: July 14, 2013, 04:21:12 PM »
I ordered sushi delivery from Kumo Japanese on seamlessweb last night after a long day, scarfed down half of it (it was rather tasty), put half in the fridge for today.  Felt fine.

This morning I go to eat the rest of it and as I'm chewing I notice that what I thought was a stray piece of rice on one of the container lids was MOVING.  Then noticed more.  Grossest sushi experience ever, I can't believe I wolfed down half of it... my mother is right that I should eat slower.

They even have an A grade.  I called and told 311.

So, just FYI and oh.my.gawd.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: For-Profit Clothing Donation Box at Lemon Tree
« on: January 29, 2013, 10:53:33 PM »
I thought this got addressed really quickly (2 weeks) and the reactions here were definitely overblown considering Lemon Farm had barely been made aware it was even an issue.

My impression is that the store owner is also a victim (for lack of a better word) here.  The very first post notes that it wasn't the owner that was initially made aware it was an issue.  I never expect that bitching to a minimum wage employee is going to yield results except for them steering clear of me next time they see me.

It was 7 posts until someone confirmed having had made contact with the owner and that he was unaware until that point, this was after 4 people were already on the boycott bandwagon.    I'm sure the pitch the owner received regarding the box was that its a good cause and one could easily forgive him for thinking it was a good idea for the store and neighborhood (someone even posted info regarding that it is known for "duping" store owners).   I expect him to be an expert in stocking cheeses and produce, not obscure scams.   Its not like it can disappear in a day and I'm sure the box owner didn't make it easy to get it removed, I would have easily estimated 30 days to get it fully addressed.

I am glad the box is gone but I think giving the store owner a chance to "cure" before starting an online uproar and calling for a boycott would have been only reasonable.  A reactionary call to arms before a real conversation has been had is just ridiculous and unrealistic especially for something that was so obviously not an intentional affront to the neighborhood.

Regardless of co-op rules if the legal resident of the home is not home during the stay, it is illegal and you run the risk of NYC authorities cracking down on you. So it doesn't matter co-op/condo/private house.

The last thing NYC wants is for landlords of residential homes to skirt rental laws and get in under the radar on our hotel industry.

Hotels/Hostals/B&Bs exist for a reason, so do residential homes.  Its a huge risk to confuse the two.
