I actually came across it on the magazine and didn't really think much of it when I read it. I hope the police can make some progress and clarifications on the case.  It's such a shame to have this happen :(

That's so scary ... something so severe and vicious at 8:50PM (which isn't even that late). I'm sure most businesses were open at that time, so there should have been more witness accounts ... saddening indeed.

How much gang activity is there in JH?

It's extremely sad that homophobic bullying around the country has led to six teen suicides over the past few days, but our sympathy to their families is not enough -- we all have a responsibility to take action and to keep working until all young people are safe and respected, no matter what their sexual orientation or gender identity may be.

What's even more disturbing is that these kinds of things are happening locally in NYC...Here's a story from last night:

Community Groups, Activities & Events / Sin Bandera Fundraising Event

Hello JH Members :)

I just wanted to take a min to introduce the Sin Bandera Project, a Jackson Heights-based initiative that seeks to be a connecting instrument between our community and communities in need.

We also wanted to invite you all to a fundraising event that we are hosting at D'Antigua Lounge to raise funds for the purchase of a Gynecology / Delivery Examination Table that will be donated to a clinic in need in El Salvador. It will be a fun, intimate evening of live music, awareness raising and mingling with fellow JHers.

Where: D'Antigua Lounge on Northern Boulevard and 84th Street
When: October 13, 2010 from 7-10PM
Price: $10 @ door -- 100% will go towards the purchase of the table. Updates of the delivery process will be made available via our Sin Bandera website and Facebook page.
