Candidates’ Forum This Thursday in Jackson Heights
The Jackson Heights Beautification Group and the Queens Civic Congress are co-sponsoring a candidates’ forum featuring the candidates for the 13th State Senate District on Thursday, March 11, at 7:30 P.M. at IS 145 (33-34 80th Street, between Northern Boulevard and 34th Avenue). The event is free and open to the public. Candidates Robert Beltrani, Hiram Monserrate, and Jose Peralta have confirmed their plans to attend.
About the Jackson Heights Beautification Group: The Jackson Heights Beautification Group is a 21-year-old neighborhood improvement group. It is a 501(c)3 nonprofit. The organization has no paid staff. On an annual budget generally below $30,000, the JHBG’s activities include:
· Running the annual Historic Weekend presentations and walking tours
· Running the annual children’s Halloween Parade, the second largest in New York City
· Planting and maintaining flowers along the main commercial artery, 37th Avenue
· Cleaning graffiti throughout the neighborhood (over 100 spots cleaned annually)
· Leading monthly street clean-ups to encourage community spirit and care
· Sponsoring summer concerts in Travers Park, and other activities of its committee Friends of Travers Park
· Co-sponsoring the Green Agenda for Jackson Heights
· Organizing and co-sponsoring community forums on important neighborhood issues
