Yes, same owner as La Abundancia across the street. I met the owner - he invited me to hang two of my photos (one in each of the two businesses), as part of my current exhibition "Queens People Eating".

Restaurants & Food / Farm Spot CSA Sign-ups for 2020 Season
« on: March 31, 2020, 11:01:32 PM »
Hello neighbors,

Farm Spot CSA is now open for sign-ups for the 2020 season.

Sign up here: https://csa.farmigo.com/join/farmspot/summer2020

The season runs from June 4th to November 12th, 2020 (total of 25 weeks).

Farm Spot has been Jackson Heights' CSA since 2006. If you're not familiar with CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), basically it is purchasing a share in a local farm. Farm Spot is partnered with Golden Earthworm Organic Farm, located in Jamesport, Long Island. Each member pays before the beginning of the season for a share of the harvest, and in return receives a box of vegetables (and optional fruit) once a week, to be picked up at St. Mark's Church on Thursdays between 5:30-8:15pm. CSA supports small, family-owned farms and boosts the local economy. Members receive fresh, seasonal, organic produce directly from the farm (no middle men).

Best wishes,

We will also be serving a food taste from the book (orange cake) and signing books.

« on: November 21, 2017, 04:17:05 PM »
Good news! There is still time to sign up for a winter csa share, but hurry because we are only accepting sign ups for a few more days. The  deadline to sign up is Saturday, November 25th. We have a few choices of different types of shares -- you can sign up for any combination of shares, or just one.

There will be 4 deliveries of the winter share, once a month from December - March. The dates (all Thursdays) are:
 -- Thursday, December 14, 2017
 -- Thursday, January 11, 2018
 -- Thursday, February 8, 2018

 -- Thursday, March 8, 2018
Pickup will be at St. Mark’s Church from 5:30-8:15pm

Types of Winter Shares:

1) GOLDEN EARTHWORM ORGANIC VEGETABLE SHARE

2) BRIEREMERE FARM APPLE SHARE

3) BRIEREMERE FARM CIDER SHARE

4) FARMBRIDGE (formerly Winter Sun Farm) FROZEN VEGETABLE SHARE

Please use this link to sign up for shares #1, #2, or #3 below:
https://csa.farmigo.com/join/farmspot/winter2018

#1 GOLDEN EARTHWORM CERTIFIED ORGANIC VEGETABLES (root vegetables and hearty winter greens)
Cost: $125 for a share (4 distributions)
If you signed up for a winter share last year, note that this year's share is larger by at least 5 lbs.
Each box will contain 15+ lbs of the following crops grown on the Golden Earthworm Organic Farm (and sourced from other local, organic family farms). Actual crops depend on availability: Potatoes, Watermelon Radish, Purple Top Turnips, Parsnips, Rutabaga, Carrots, Beets, Leeks, Winter Squash and Cabbage.  If we have a warm December, the first box may include greens from the fields.  Exact contents to be determined.

#2 NON-ORGANIC BRIERMERE FARM APPLE SHARE - $32 for a share (4 deliveries, 4 lbs of apples per delivery)

#3 NON-ORGANIC BRIERMERE FARM CIDER SHARE - $23 (4 deliveries)

Please use this link to sign up for shares #1, #2, or #3 above:

#4 FARMBRIDGE FROZEN VEGETABLE SHARE

To sign up for #4, a frozen share, please follow this link:
http://thefarmbridgeshares.csasignup.com/members/types
(please scroll down to the "Jackson Heights Share"

The frozen share will receive a total of 35 items spread out over the four deliveries. The share consists of frozen items which are either individually quick frozen (IQF) or pureed fruits/vegetables. The IQF process freezes each kernel of corn, each berry, which not only maximizes flavor, but allows you to parcel out what you need (without having to hack off a chunk from a solid block), and put the rest of the package back in the freezer. We freeze at the peak of freshness, often hours after the farmer’s harvest.

Agreed! Lemon Farm is unique to the neighborhood, offering a wide selection of goods not available anywhere else in JH. I hope the new owners will retain the same concept, while making improvements as needed.
