Restaurants & Food / Re: Louie's Pizza

I really love Louie's Grandma pie.

What I hate is their response time and consistency.

They have been been 15 to ONE HOUR late with their deliveries pretty much each time I order.

They have delivered the wrong pizza TWICE.

I mean I keep going back but really it's like some bad relationship at this point.

Great food, incredibly bad management.

Sorry to hear about the shortchanging of workers. One of my favorite spots. Tip BIG.

Delivery here is FAST.  Food delicious.

You have been luckier than I. All of my order from Pio Pio are usually at least 15 mins late. Typically they say "30 to 45 mins" and it takes around an hour. This happened the last 3 times I've ordered. Last time was their 3rd strike for me.

Pio Pio...good food but disappointing in almost every other way.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Food Stamps!!
« on: April 15, 2010, 11:03:32 AM »
Perhaps this discussion would do with a strong dose of facts?

"88% of food stamp households have gross incomes below the poverty line ($18,100 for a family of four in 2002)."

The anecdotal examples above are basically just that. A non-representative example that has little do with the reality of those on food stamps. I highly doubt that "many" are abusing the system (where's the factual basis for this?) as most are just simply trying to get by. As for the the ice cream example which started out this entire discussion, perhaps their child a birthday party or maybe they were celebrating a landing a job. Frankly, we don't know but to condemn the system based on one apocryphal instance is pretty reactionary.

Having said that, while I understand having a broad range of options under the food stamp program alleviates the stigma and provides the recipient with more choice, I'd probably be more comfortable with restricting candy and icecream purchases.

Ordered a plain pie.

Perfectly cooked and visually looked very good.

Shockingly salty though.

Neighborhood Chat / Energy slammers in the hood
« on: November 02, 2009, 11:28:30 AM »
I was interrupted this Sunday by a representative of "Just Energy" asking to see my Con Ed bill so he could assess my savings.

Basically he was going to from apartment to apartment trying to get people to switch their energy providers.

While I am understand the theory behind choosing your own energy provider, the sneaky way that these companies go about getting customers to switch is pretty disgusting.

Anyway, I turned him away pretty quickly but then I heard him trying to convince my elderly neighbor and I confronted him asking to him to leave the building. He said that he had the right to be there based on something other which seemed wrong to me but he left eventually.

If you do a quick google seach for Just Energy scam or energy slamming, it'll bring up the info you need.

Conversely not all newer residents (like myself) are in full support of the street vendors.

I would personally prefer that they be reduced in number.

The veiled insinuation that an objection to these vendors is racially-based is a pretty ridiculous dodge around the real issues brought up further up in the thread.

Neighborhood Chat / Barber/Hair stylists?

Any recommended in the vicinity? I was tempted to go to Headz Aint Ready but I might pass for now.

Looking for a nice professional haircut for a man. My wife is also looking for a good place for a woman's haircut so any help in that area would be appreciated as well.
