Neighborhood Chat / Free Award-Winning Feature Film on Vimeo
« on: May 06, 2019, 11:00:15 PM »
Hi Neighbors,

Our feature film, To The Flame, can now be seen for free on Vimeo for a limited time. https://vimeo.com/268904181 (probably appropriate for 14 years and up)

To The Flame was nominated for Best Picture at the Madrid International Film Festival, it won Best Screenplay at the Queens World Film Festival and features some neighbors including Josie Whittlesey, Shirleyann Kaladjian, Ted Deasy, Gina Daniels, Alex Webb and Neal Mayer. It also features New York actors Ari Brand (Fosse/Verdon) and Jasmine Carmichael (Sneaky Pete).

"Alex Webb and his pitch-perfect cast are defining a new sub-genre - a sharp-witted blend of noir + comedy, shot through with the complications and preoccupations of our age. Never has a film been so in on its own joke while simultaneously delivering a deliriously silly, scream-y good time! A dark view of the current state of our world wrapped in pure escapist fun. I loved it!! BRAVO!! See it for yourself!!" (IMDB - Penny Hays)

If you get to see the film please take a moment and review it on IMDB! And tell a friend.

Thanks!

Alex and Shirleyann

Happy Autumn!

I have been an ACE certified personal trainer for 17 years and have been training our neighbors here in Jackson Heights for the past 5 years. Happily, I am now able to take on a few new clients.

My clients have ranged in age from 30-95 years old (really!). I have experience working with osteo and rheumatoid arthritis, stenosis, Parkinson's, obesity, cancer, hip and knee replacements, neuropathy, frozen shoulder, physical changes related to gender transition, balance and mobility issues and post-surgery healing. I work closely with clients' physicians and physical therapists.

Fitness has 4 basic elements: strength, flexibility, balance and cardio. I create individual fitness programs using a combination of yoga, dance, Pilates, interval training and various strength and balance exercises. I have a very gentle approach and use humor throughout the sessions - you may not realize you're actually exercising!

For more information, you may reach me at sakwebb1@aol.com. Neighborhood references available upon request.

Sincerely,
Shirleyann Kaladjian

My play, AMELIA, was just published by Samuel French. We will have a free reading and wine and cheese reception at Drama Books, 250 w. 40th in Manhattan, tomorrow, January 11, Thursday at 5pm. More info on the play below. Shirleyann and I would love to share this event with our neighbors!

Thanks,

Alex Webb

www.ameliatheplay.com

AMELIA is an epic Civil War story of one woman's courageous journey to find her husband at all costs. The story turns on a little-known piece of history; over five hundred women masqueraded as men and fought, won medals and died on the battlefields of the Civil War.

Critical praise for Amelia:

"Amelia thrums with a cast of ghostly personae."
- New York Times

"Brings a corner of the Civil War vividly to life … rich in language, history and ideas … tour de force. Webb's play mines an intriguing sidebar of the Civil War - several hundred women fought in the war disguised as men."
- (Editor's Pick) - The Washington Post

"Amelia recreates Civil War history with uncanny accuracy and delivers a knockout story of young lovers caught up in one of history’s great wars."
- History News Network

"Alex Webb has crafted an ingenious tale…The narrative is historical, yet relevantly feminist, emotionally brutal, yet romantic, and constantly upsetting, yet amusing."
- Backstage

"To say that it was an evening of magic is to sell it short. It was the kind of production that gave hope to the heart, joy to the soul and a sorrow leavened by admiration and wonder."
