Neighborhood Chat / Diversity Plaza
« on: June 29, 2017, 01:35:11 PM »
Does anyone know why the tables and chairs in Diversity Plaza are locked up all the time these days?  Across Broadway, in the little plaza surrounded by Momo Carts and Sammy's Halal, a smaller number of chairs and tables are out and extremely well-used. It seems a shame that what little public space we have in the neighborhood is not more user-friendly, especially when the means to make it so are right there.

Neighborhood Chat / Crowley and Medicare for All
« on: March 29, 2017, 02:38:01 PM »
The Medicare for All bill sponsored by Rep. John Conyers has 74 Democratic cosponsors, including a dozen from NY State.  But no Rep. Crowley (and no Rep. Meng).

If that's something you think he should support, you can call 1-202-224-3121 and urge him to co-sponsor.

Restaurants & Food / Caviar

The delivery app, not the product (sorry). Just wanted to pass along my recommendation. I've used it twice and been pretty impressed. It's a little bit more expensive--they have their own delivery people and charge a small fee. But it gives us access to a whole wider set of good restaurants outside of the neighborhood.  They deliver to here from a ton of Astoria restaurants (Greek--including MP Taverna and Zenon, Italian, Vietnamese, gastropub, hipster comfort food, etc) and they just added JoJu and JoJu Bowl. They also have a few Jackson Heights restaurants, but there really isn't a need to use this service for those.

Anyway it's a well-selected (I hate the overuse of the word curate) group of restaurants, the app is well-designed and the two times I've used it the food showed up quickly, and before the estimate.

Restaurants & Food / Elmhurst dining
« on: February 01, 2017, 08:58:29 AM »
There's a new guide to Elmhurst restaurants on Eater by Robert Sietsema. Nice to see what I think is the best eating neighborhood in Queens get some coverage. Like one of the commenters I was surprised Uncle Zhou is not on there. But he writes about a new Vietnamese sandwich place, Summer--looks good.

On 37th Ave: I believe it's opening this weekend.  The sign (attached) makes me love this neighborhood a little bit more.

They appear to have a bunch of locations in Queens already.  Now if only I actually liked those tapioca pearls...
