Neighborhood Chat / Paint the plaza
« on: December 28, 2021, 06:41:36 AM »
Do you have any extra paint cans laying around and want to put them to use? Email me jeffsayyes@gmail.com

Sometime after this site is long gone, I am going to organize an event painting the grates in diversity plaza to make it look great again. (help me with some puns or naming). I'm going to wait for a warm Sunday to do it though, so either January is out or it's short notice.

Just wanted to grab some eyes here before it's all over for JHL.

Which bulletin boards in the neighborhood do you peruse? I'm putting posters up for Momo Crawl and wanted to see if there are any I don't know about

Neighborhood Chat / Momo Crawl 2021
« on: November 02, 2021, 01:51:03 PM »
Hey all, Momo Crawl is back on

Here is some info:

Celebrate the Himalayan Heights at Momo Crawl 2021!
* $5 Momo Maps to participate
* $1 Momos
* Dance performances
* Free Momo Trolley rides
* Free vintage NYC taxi rides from Famous Fat Dave
* Free Momo Pedicab rides
* Free Momo Facepainting from ArtofAnjana
* Vote and march to the winner to award the championship belt
**** and more ****
It started out as 32 friends trying to eat every momo and has since turned into an eating experience and arts festival promoting local entrepreneurship and Himalayan x NYC culture. All proceeds go back to the neighborhood and pay for creating an awesome experience at the Momo Crawl.
Participants pay $5 for a Momo Map then buy individual momos at momo shops and restaurants for $1 each. At the center, we have music, dance, art, and an interactive voting experience. At 5pm, we count the votes and march the championship belt made from yak hide adorned with a rock from the top of Mount Everest to the winner. Seriously.

Real Estate & Home Improvement / Kitchen door hinges

My kitchen doorway has hinges on them and I've noticed the same on other doors in kitchens in the area. So.... did kitchens use to have doors on them??

Restaurants & Food / Mickey Lin's Messy Kitchen
« on: March 30, 2021, 11:14:20 AM »
Just wanted to introduce my wife's new project: Mickey Lin's Messy Kitchen. She makes Taiwanese snacks and custom Swiss rolls. We have been selling outside Travers Park and from home. It's really good!

For Easter, she created an Easter egg hunt inside her Swiss roll https://www.facebook.com/Mickey-Lins-messy-kitchen-103975921770297

The menu includes chocolate cookies, marshmallow cookies, walnut and sesame sticks (good for kids), and the Swiss rolls. She was making the custom fortune cookies but it's so labor intensive with our home oven that it is just too expensive to sell. Happy to answer any questions

Restaurants & Food / NYC Restaurant Week 2021
« on: January 26, 2021, 03:47:09 PM »
I always like perusing the menus to see the possibilities. This year there are a few in our area, like Uncle Peters, Ottomanelli's, La Fusta, Casa de Chef. Sometimes it's a good deal, sometimes it's just regular BUT this year mastercard is giving $10 off, which is pretty significant at this price point. Any observations?

Restaurants & Food / gift certificates
« on: April 04, 2020, 11:04:27 AM »
Here's a site I just came across where you can buy gift certificates and they give the business an extra 5% on top of that. Lots of places in our neighborhood

It seems like procuring food might be an issue. Any luck with good times to go to supermarkets, alternatives, delivery options?

Neighborhood Chat / Cameo - chris gethard
« on: March 19, 2020, 03:27:22 PM »
We kind of have a celebrity in our area - I am sure we have more than a few in many different circles - but Chris Gethard is on Cameo

https://www.cameo.com/chrisgeth

I love Cameo. I have used it for my wife 2x and upcoming mothers day I have one in my pocket. Can't recommend the site enough. BUT I happened upon Chris Gethard and you can see JH in the background of his apt. Not sure if this violates rules bc I think he's gotta be a celebrity? he's sorta famous?

Restaurants & Food / Most curious about
« on: January 21, 2020, 07:31:16 PM »
Where in the neighborhood are you most curious about?

For me, it would be Amore. It looks so homey and from a different time or place. It's probably not the most amazing food, it just looks interesting.

Neighborhood Chat / Modems
« on: December 26, 2019, 11:41:10 AM »
I currently have Spectrum at Earthlink prices (46/mo).... I need to get a new modem and I can't handle renting.....
The Authorized modems for Spectrum or Fios seem either way old (spectrum) or way expensive (fios). Anyone have any favorable experiences navigating this? Must we get the authorized modems?

Neighborhood Chat / Signage regulations
« on: December 06, 2019, 06:19:12 PM »
It may have something to do with this
https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/news/2018/12/02/why-brooklyn-businesses-are-getting-slapped-with-signage-fines-

It's terrible. takes the character away from so many businesses. Flat, graphic signs are so boring.
